Take Complete Backup of Android Phone (Rooted and Non-Rooted)

We have seen before how you can backup your Android device on computer using Wondershare MobileGo but there are some limitations regarding the tool:

  • Wondershare MobileGo takes a considerable amount of time to restore the backup.
  • One can only backup contacts, text messages and apps by using a tool to remove call logs and Wi-Fi hotspot settings.
  • This process lacks the flexibility to restore data on the go as one has to connect the phone to the computer to restore the backup.

Today I will talk about a better alternative – Go Backup, which will help you to backup your entire device and restore it easily whenever you want. The app works on all devices – non-rooted and rooted but rooted devices enjoy some extra perks within the app.

Return

If you have a non-rooted device, you can easily backup and restore SMS, MMS, contacts, call logs, Wi-Fi hotspots and apps. While restoring settings, users on non-rooted devices will have to manually restore apps one by one. On the other hand, rooted devices can also backup app data (logins, saved games, etc) and restore them silently in the background. So let’s see how to use the app to backup and restore them.

Make a backup

Download and install the app on your device and launch it. The application will automatically detect if you have root access on the device and will automatically enable root services after the user’s permission. To create a backup, click the . button New backup on the main screen of the application.

New backup

The app will ask you to tick all the things you want to back up. The first time, you should take a full backup. Once you’ve confirmed your selection, tap Backup start button.

Select Backup

The app will take the backup and save it to the phone’s SD card. If you want to copy the backup to your computer, you can mount the SD card in your computer and copy the folder /sdcard/GOBackup/AllBackup/ to your computer.

Backup

When you need to restore settings, make sure the backup file is saved in the correct path and click recovery button. If you have made multiple backups, select the file you want to restore. To exclude any components from the backup, remove the check mark and click the Restore button. On non-rooted devices you will have to hit the install button to restore any apps but as I mentioned, rooted devices can put their phone in their pocket; all apps will be restored silently.

RestoreChoose a backup file

You can also schedule backups using the app and you should always do so, but don’t forget to delete old backup files from time to time to save space.

Overall, Go Backup is a one-stop solution for all your Android backup tasks. If you know which app is better, don’t forget to mention it in the comments.
