Skype, as we know it, is a great app for making calls, video conferencing and saving money on long distance phone bills.
While Skype is a feature-rich tool, it is not capable of recording voice calls. But that doesn’t mean you can’t do it. There are third-party tools, add-ons, and more methods to record Skype conversations.
Today we are going to talk about one of the best free tools to record Skype conversations. Called CallGraph, it is a chat recording plugin for Skype. You can use this tool to record calls of any length.
The tool stores the recordings on your computer, so you don’t have to worry about privacy either.
Here are instructions for authorizing and using this plugin to record Skype calls.
Step 1. Before using this plugin, you need to connect it to Skype by authorizing it (CallGraph redirects audio data to and from Skype for call recording). You cannot record both sides of the call without permission.
An alert will flash on the Skype console”Another application (CallGraph.exe) is trying to access Skype but we cannot respond. Please try restarting the app“.
Step 2. Restart Skype. Now go to Skype > Tools > Options
Step 3. On the left navigation bar, click ‘High level‘ navigation. Click the link”Manage other programs accessing Skype“.
Step 4. You will find Callgraph there. Click the change button. If you don’t see the application, you must restart Skype and try again.
Step 5. In the next step, select the option “Allow this program to use Skype”. Click ALRIGHT button.
Step 6. On the taskbar, look at the Call Graph icon. If a green tick appears on it then it means the plugin is authorized and you can record any call now. If not found, you need to restart your PC.
Note: You can also record a conversation without a green tick (authorization sign) on the icon, but it may not yield accurate results.
Step 7. Click the CallGraph icon. It will display the toolbar. While on a Skype call, press the record button. The recording will start immediately. You can also stop recording at any time during your chat.
Right click on the icon and select configuration option. You can check the settings according to your preference. You can choose the option to automatically record Skype calls (you don’t need to press the record button manually). ABOVE record you can choose the recording format (mp3 or wav), sample rate and bit rate.
All conversations are saved in yours My Documents folder. You can also access the CallGraph browser by right-clicking the icon in the toolbar and selecting “Browser” option. You can modify the file by clicking “file action” link. You can also add tags to the chat so that any important files can be easily searched in the future. Rename and add notes to the chat.
After testing this plugin, I found it very effective. The sound quality is good and the recording is done smoothly without any errors.
