They are not difficult to handle at all, but for someone who is completely new to all that, there is bound to be a learning curve.
Posterous provides an easier and faster way to start blogging. To create a post, you just need to send an email. Just write to [email protected] and send it. The content of the message will be automatically published by Posterous on your blog. It’s an easy way to get started with this service.
In this article, we will talk about how to start posting content on your Posterous blog, share content automatically on social networks, and manage your Posterous account.
How to Set Up a Posterous Blog
Posterous provides an easy way to share your thoughts, photos, videos, links, etc. To get started, send an email to [email protected] .com.
- Sign in to your email account.
- Compose a new message.
- Enter [email protected] inside ARRIVE field.
- Anything you write in Subject field will be the title of the post.
- In the body of the email, write what you want to include in your post. You can add image, video, audio, URL inside it.
You can also go to the Postreous homepage and click on any of the mail client buttons (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL). It will redirect you to create a new mail page.
Immediately after sending the email, you will receive an email from Posterous. This message will contain your blog link. Posterous will assign you a temporary URL, and you can choose your own after logging into your account. If you send an email from [email protected] then your blog title will be xyzabc’s posterity. You can also change the title later. You can also edit or delete your post by clicking on the link provided in the message.
Click on the link provided inside the message and it will redirect you to “Set password” page. Enter a name for your website and password and click the Sign Up button. It will set up a new Posterous account for you.
How to manage your Posterous account
After you click the register button in the above step, you will be redirected to the management page. You can also open the management page by visiting this link. Here you will get many customization options. You can edit your profile and link your account with popular social networking accounts like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Youtube etc.
You can add more email addresses to your Posterous account and create new posts without emailing (i.e. by using their blog editor).
ABOVE Setting tab, you can change your site’s name and its address. There are also beautiful themes available to help you change the look of your blog.
There are also privacy options to decide who can see your site (password protected).
You can link your Posterous accounts to several other websites. On the management page, click on the Autopost link provided on the left sidebar. On the right side, click the “Add Service” button. Click on the service you want to use to automatically publish, instead of automatically linking your Posterous blog posts.
The great thing about Posterous is that it allows you to easily customize automatic posting to other pages. Let’s say you have published some content on Posterous and want to share it only on Facebook…or only on Facebook and Twitter and not on other websites. You can do it easily.
1. If you want to share your post on all the linked pages, mail to [email protected]
2. If you only want to submit a post to your blog and not on any of the linked sites, send a mail to [email protected].
3. If you only want to share your post on a specific network, send an email to [email protected]. For example [email protected], [email protected].
4. If you want to send a Posterous post to two linked sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, send an email to [email protected].
How to use Bookmarklet Posterous to quickly post on your blog
Let’s say you come across a website with beautiful images or great videos and you want to share it with your friends through your Posterous blog. Poster bookmarklet provides a quick way to do it.
Install bookmarklet
- Go to Bookmarklet Posterous.
- On the right sidebar there is a “Share on Posterous” button.
- Drag and drop this button on your browser’s bookmarks bar.
Use bookmarklets
- Highlight the text of any page and click the bookmarklet present on the bookmarks bar.
- A new window will appear. You can edit the title, add comments, and choose one of the excerpts from the page.
- Click the “Advanced options” link if you want to automatically post it everywhere (i.e. on sites you’ve connected to Posterous).
- press “parcel” button.
Similarly, if you want to post an image or video of the post then just press the bookmarklet button and it will automatically find flash embeddings and large images on the page.
