How to Enable Dark Mode on Snapchat on iPhone and Android

Snapchat is a pleasure to use in dark mode. The social giant has released dark theme support for iOS and Android apps. By default, it does not sync with system theme settings. The option to enable dark mode on Snapchat is included in the settings menu. Here’s how you can use it.

Enable Dark Mode on Snapchat iOS App

When developers implement dark mode on their apps on iPhone, they automatically add a condition to enable it with iOS dark theme. Follow the steps below to enable dark mode on Snapchat for iPhone.

Step 1: Open the Snapchat app on your iPhone.

Step 2: Click on the account photo at the top.

Step 3: Select the setting gear.

Step 4: From the My Account menu, scroll down to App view.

Step 5: Select Always Dark.

Snapchat will use dark mode throughout the app. Your eyes won’t get tired while browsing the app at night. But what about in the morning? Using the Always Dark option, Snapchat will always be in dark mode. We recommend using the Matching system preference instead to sync the look of your app with iOS’s light/dark mode.

Step 1: Launch Snapchat on your iPhone.

Step 2: Go to your profile and select Settings.

Step 3: Click on the App Interface menu and select Matching system.

From now on, Snapchat will follow the iOS theme and change the interface accordingly.

Automate Snapchat Themes on iPhone

There is a trick to automatically enable and disable dark mode on Snapchat on iPhone. iOS allows you to automate the dark theme in the OS. iOS will switch between dark and light themes based on the time frame. And since you selected Match System in the Snapchat interface menu, the app will be iOS themed.

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

Step 2: Go to the Display & Brightness menu.

Step 3: Turn on Automatic toggle and select Options.

Step 4: Choose the morning time you want to use iOS light theme and night time to automatically enable dark theme.

Snapchat will change the look and feel whenever the iOS dark theme kicks in at night. It will revert to the light theme in the morning.

Enable Dark Mode on Snapchat for Android

Snapchat hasn’t implemented dark mode support on Android yet. This feature is currently part of beta. Snapchat’s Android public beta test pool is full, and the company isn’t accepting any new users.

There is a workaround though. Making a tweak from the developer settings menu, you can force a dark theme for all installed apps on your phone, including Snapchat. Let us show you how.

Step 1: Swipe down to open the notification center.

Step 2: Tap the Settings gear.

Step 3: Scroll down to the About phone menu.

Step 4: Go to the bottom and find the Build number. Tap it five to six times and enable Developer Mode on your Android phone.

Step 5: Go back to the Settings menu and search for Developer Options. Enable conversion.

Step 6: Find Hardware Accelerated Rendering option. Enable dark force transition override.

The operating system will force a dark theme on all apps. Open Snapchat to see it in dark mode.

However, if you have updated Snapchat to the latest version, you will not see a change in action. We have a fix for that, but it involves installing an APK file from a third-party source. So proceed with caution.

Step 1: Go to APKmirror and download Snapchat’s APK file.

Step 2: Before installing the APK file, you need to uninstall the current Snapchat app on your phone.

Android will not overwrite existing apps with old Snapchat builds. Once you delete the current app and install the APK file, open the app.

You will see the Android operating system override dark mode in Snapchat. Some new functionality, such as Maps, won’t work with old app builds. You may find some UI elements broken due to the mandatory dark theme in Snapchat.

Enjoy Snapchat at night

Most GT members prefer to use Snapchat in dark mode at night. We’ve set Snapchat to be OS-themed and set the iPhone to automatically turn on dark mode at night.
