How to Install the RENOVATE Custom ROM On HTC One X

While talking about ways to speed up a rooted Android phone, we covered how a custom ROM can help you do that and at the same time extend the battery life of your device. Keeping the same principle in mind, today I will show you how to install a custom ROM RENOVATE on your HTC One X.

The ROM is based on the latest RUU (1.29.401.11) and has removed most of the features of HTC Sense 4.0, keeping only the essentials.

Necessary requirements

  • Rooted HTC One X has custom recovery settings.
  • Back up the data on your phone.

Install ROM

Step 1: Before we start the process, I want you to create a folder on your hard drive and name it OneX. Now download the latest version of RENOVATE ROM from the XDA Site and place it in the OneX folder we created earlier.

Step 2: Open the ROM zip file with the free archive manager and extract the boot.img file into the OneX folder. You can simply select the file and drag it to the folder. Alternatively, copy the RENOVATE ROM zip file to your SD card.

Step 3: We will now flash the boot.img file to your phone. Flashing a file usually requires you to write some commands on the command prompt, but I created an auto-executable script (Thanks to the tips I got on XDA) for my readers on Guiding Tech, which will automatically execute. do what is necessary for you. But before that, you will have to boot your phone in bootloader mode. To do so, turn your phone OFF and press and hold the Volume Down + Power buttons simultaneously until the phone boots up in the bootloader.

Step 4: Now download the script zip file (UPDATE: File no longer available), extract the contents to the OneX folder and run the flash.bat file. The command prompt will display and flash the file.

Step 5: Once done with that, boot the phone in CWM recovery from the bootloader. Once you are in the CMW restore, do a Nandroid backup of your current ROM and navigate to Install zip from sdcard—>select zip from sdcard. Select the ROM zip file and start the installation.

The first boot may take some time, don’t worry. After the device boots, configure the settings and restore the backup.
