Instagram allows you to save posts so you can easily refer to them later in the future. It’s a feature I use all the time. Saving articles comes in handy in many situations. Even better, Instagram allows you to neatly categorize your saved posts into Collections. However, some Instagram users have missed out on the benefits of this feature because it sometimes malfunctions on their devices. We will cover some common Instagram Collection problems in this post and show you how to solve them.
This post will highlight some troubleshooting solutions to fix your Instagram app when the Save button doesn’t work or the app crashes. Also, if some of your saved posts are missing from your collection, we have listed three (3) ways to recover them below. Continue reading.
Saving an Instagram post is easy. Tap or tap and hold the bookmark icon in the bottom right corner of any post on a mobile device or PC. The post will then be saved to a private section of your profile or gallery (if you created one).
Instagram Save/Bookmark Icon
There are cases where you can’t save posts to your collection because the bookmarks/save icon doesn’t work or isn’t responding. I have experienced that a few times. Some users have even reported that the Instagram app sometimes crashes whenever they try to save a post or when they press and hold the ‘Save to Collection’ button. If you ever face the same problem on your IG, here’s how to solve it.
Close and relaunch Instagram
Just close the Instagram app on your device (Android or iOS) and the save button can work again. That worked for me and some users found it to be an effective fix as well. Relaunch the app and you can now save the post.
Restart the phone
If closing Instagram doesn’t fix the problem, try restarting your phone. This will help refresh the app, get it running properly, and can fix any issues that are causing the Instagram app to malfunction.
Clear cache (for Android)
Clearing the Instagram app’s cache data may also fix the app’s problems. This will remove any old or corrupted data/files responsible for the Instagram app’s inability to save posts to the collection. This will also improve the performance of the app and save storage space on your Android device.
To clear the Instagram app cache, launch the Android Settings menu and go to Apps & Notifications > App Info > Instagram > Storage & Cache and tap the Clear Cache button.
Launch Instagram after clearing cache and check if you can now save posts.
iOS users can try reinstalling the Instagram app completely.
Update Instagram
Saved Posts Don’t Load/Disappear
This is another common problem that many Instagram users have reported. When too many posts are saved to an Instagram Collection, older (previously saved) posts in the collection are sometimes missing. If that describes your current situation, read the fixes below to get back saved posts in your Instagram collection.
Update Instagram
Are you running the latest version of the Instagram app on your smartphone? If not, update the app from your phone’s app store and the missing saved posts will reappear in your gallery.
Check out the Instagram website
If you still can’t find the saved posts in your collection after updating the mobile app, you should sign in to your Instagram account on your PC. The web version of Instagram is mostly bug-free and you’ll see all the posts saved to your collection.
To check your Instagram web saved posts, follow the steps below.
Step 1: Go to Instagram on your browser, enter your account credentials and tap Sign In.
Step 2: Next, tap the profile icon in the upper right corner of the homepage.
Step 3: Navigate to the Saved section of your profile.
You will see all the saved posts associated with your Instagram account.
Note: Saved posts (currently) are not grouped into Collections on the web version of Instagram.
Delete newly saved posts
Instagram does not delete your saved posts without your consent. However, saving more posts to your collection can sometimes hide older posts in that collection. Instagram does not officially say whether there is a limit on the number of posts that can be saved (to collections or not). However, some users have reported that saving new posts has hidden older posts from their collection. Interestingly, deleting the newly saved post restored the missing posts.
If the post you’re looking for is extremely important, you can delete other unimportant posts you’ve recently saved and the missing post(s) will reappear in your collection. Here’s how to delete saved Instagram posts on Android and iOS devices.
Step 1: Tap the profile icon in the lower right corner of the Instagram app.

When you delete/unsave recent items in the collection, check if the post you are looking for reappears in the collection. If not, delete more posts and keep checking if the missing post(s) have been restored.
Bookmark for later
If you follow the methods mentioned above, you will no longer have trouble saving Instagram photos and videos. If you have any other questions about saving posts to gallery on Instagram or ‘Save to Gallery’ still not working on your app, let us know in the comments section below.
