How to Get iOS-like Assistive Touch on Android

Touch support iOS 4

You may know the iOS feature called Assistive Touch. This feature helps users in cases where they have difficulty touching the screen or pressing buttons on the iPhone. Until the iPhone 5, the main use of the touch assist button was to use it as a soft home key instead of a hard button.

However, now that the iPhone has introduced larger screen devices, it proves to be really useful for those who like to operate the device with one hand. Assistive Touch provides a small floating icon located on one side or the other of the device. When the user taps it, a floating menu opens allowing the user to perform certain quick actions.

Why Assistive Touch for Android?

While using the Redmi Note 4G the other day, I realized that this feature can also be very useful for Android users who find it difficult to operate on a larger screen with just one hand. The best part is that I don’t have to wait for Google to roll out this feature in one of their upcoming Android releases. I’m sure there’s an app for that. After some searching and testing, I’ve handpicked an app from the Play Store that brings touch support to Android.

Easy Touch for Android

EasyTouch for Android is a floating app that sits on top of your Android screen and helps you complete routine tasks with ease.

After installing the app, you’ll see a small blue dot on the edge of the screen. Tap it to open the launcher menu easily. The first screen gives you some basic options from where you can lock the device, clear the memory, and go to the home screen. You can swipe to the second screen on the right, which will give you an alarm and menu button along with options to go back and take a screenshot.

Note: Due to Android system limitation, the app requires root access on the device to use the back and screenshot options.

The Setting options on EasyTouch do not open the application configuration. Instead, it opens up quick controls for your Android device. You can control radio settings, screen rotation, and device brightness.

The most useful feature of EasyTouch is that it gives the option to add 8 of your favorite apps to the menu. Go Donate and tap the app icon to add some of your frequently used apps. This can help launch your most used apps from whatever screen you might be using.

If the blue dot gets in your way while working on Android, you can throw it at any edge. To turn off the dot for a while, just touch and hold the dot. When you need it back, just tap the notification in the drawer. The blue theme can be changed by downloading additional themes from the app. There are many free themes you can choose from. The look and behavior of EasyTouch can be adjusted from the application configuration.

Conclusion

So that’s almost everything about EasyTouch. The application is free to use without any limitations. It’s a bit rough on the edges though, and will probably need a few updates to fix that, but that didn’t seem to be too much of a problem in my testing. If you have root access on your phone, there are even more advantages, so give it a try.
