Get Android L Lock Screen on Android 4.0 and Above

Android L could be released this fall with a bunch of new features like Material Design, a completely revamped lock screen, and lots of performance optimizations. It will take some time before most devices receive the update, and as always, some will be dropped. Well, that’s something we have to deal with when it comes to Android. But let’s leave that topic for another day and talk about Android L Lock Screen for now.

The Android L lock screen will now look a lot like the iOS lock screen with notification banners and shortcut buttons for the camera and dialer. With Android L, users can view all Android notifications directly on the lock screen and directly access the respective app. Watch the following video to better understand the look and feel of Android L Lock Screen.

Save time, right? So let’s see how we can get that lock screen on our droid now and skip waiting for the update to be released for our respective devices.

Android L Plus Lock Screen

To get started, download and install the Android L LockScreen Plus app from the Play Store. The app can be installed on any device running Android 4.0 or later.

Since the app doesn’t overwrite your system lock screen, you’ll have to disable it manually. This will ensure that you don’t have to unlock two lock screens before returning to the home screen. To turn off your current lock screen, open Android settings and choose Do not have below Security—> Screen Lock. One done, go ahead and launch the app. You must agree to the notification control settings for the app to read incoming Android notifications.

Now, to activate your new lock screen, just select Activating the LOOK lock screen. The app also gives you the option to preview the lock screen before you go ahead and apply it. When you tap that, the app will show you some fake notifications on the lock screen that you can use to test the app. On the left we have the dial button and the camera button on the right. Slide to open the corresponding application directly.

These apps can be changed from the app High level setting. Wallpaper for the lock screen can also be changed. You can configure options such as clearing notifications after the screen is unlocked and turning on the screen when new notifications are received. One great feature that I like about the app is Black list feature. Adding an app to this list will make sure it’s muted and doesn’t appear on lock screen notifications. If you’re looking for extra security, you can enable pattern lock in the app.

If you like L LockScreen, you can upgrade to the premium version which will give you full control over your choice of swipe-to-launch apps instead of limiting you to a predefined list, along with the ability to choose any wallpaper as background.

Note: Currently, the app has high memory usage (>100 MB) but the developer has promised to optimize this app in the upcoming release. High memory does not affect the overall performance of the battery and devices with 1 GB RAM or more will be able to run apps smoothly without any performance issues.

Conclusion

L LockScreen is a great way to interact directly with Android notifications and navigate to the corresponding app directly from the lock screen. While memory optimization is still an issue, you can also check out the AC Display app, which gives you the same features but in a different way.
