Tabbed browsing is one of the best features that most browsers have adapted to today. Now, when multiple tabs are open at the same time, each browser has its own default way to display taskbar thumbnail previews in Windows 7.
For example, Internet Explorer shows a preview for each open tab at the moment. The advantage is that we can click on any tab (thumbnail preview) to maximize the browser focusing on that particular tab.
On the other hand, browsers like Firefox and Google Chrome show a single tab thumbnail in the taskbar preview (the one that is in focus at the time of minimizing). This helps avoid confusion when having to open too many tabs.
While these are the default settings included, there is always a provision to revert to the user’s comfort. Today we’ll tell you how to configure it on IE or Firefox so you can set the preview behavior that works best for you.
Steps to enable Tab Preview on Firefox
These steps will change the single tab preview to show thumbnails for each open tab.
Step 1: Navigate to Firefox (orange button on top left) Preferences -> Preferences.
Step 2: On the Options dialog box highlight the focus to tab tab and check read option Show tab preview in Windows taskbar.
Step 3: Click Alright and you’ll see the difference next time you hover over the Firefox taskbar icon.
Steps to Disable Tab Preview on IE
These steps will disable tab preview for each tab and display only a thumbnail for the currently focused tab.
Step 1: Navigate to Tools -> Internet Options from the IE interface to open the Internet Options dialog box.
Step 2: On the General tab you will find a section for Tabs. click Setting button below this section.
Step 3: A new window opens for Tabbed Browsing Settings. Uncheck the read option Show preview for each taskbar tab.
Step 4: Click Alright, save the settings and restart your browser. You’ll see that the change reflects immediately and your IE only displays a tab thumbnail.
Note: If you want to revert the settings back to default or change them from time to time, you need to navigate to the same location and check or uncheck the said boxes respectively.
Conclusion
Both styles are beneficial in their own way. Since I have a lot of tabs open, I choose to disable individual tab previews.
Style do you prefer? Would you change the behavior of Internet Explorer or of Mozilla Firefox? Don’t forget to drop a comment. ????
