I hope we’ve determined by now that Instagram isn’t just for selfies. In fact, some of the best photos I’ve seen lately come from my Instagram feed. The cameras in today’s high-end iPhones and Android phones are truly amazing. Combine that with Instagram finally getting advanced photo editing features that go beyond filters, and oftentimes the results are truly mesmerizing.
But Instagram doesn’t have an option to save photos. What if you want to keep a photo you’ve been tagged in for safekeeping? What if you couldn’t help but capture that spectacular lightning as your wallpaper? With the help of these apps, you will be able to save Instagram photos/videos in just a few seconds.
Android
1. Easy Downloader for Instagram
EasyDownloader is true to its name. Open the app and it will run in the background – you will see an icon in the notification bar. You can stop the application from running by pressing the . button Power button in the top bar.
Now go to the Instagram app and when you find the photo/video from the public profile that you want to download, tap the three dot menu button and select Copy Share URL.
The EasyDownloader application running in the background is programmed to listen for this command. As soon as you tap that button, the app will start downloading the corresponding image and you will get a notification. Tapping the notification will take you to the image.
2. Instagram Downloader Xposed Module (Root)
If you’re rooted and have the Xposed Framework set up, there’s a module that makes the Instagram download a lot simpler.

Step 1: Open Xposed Installer application. Go Downloadsearch Instagram Downloader and from version control panel, download the latest version.
Step 2: Once the Xposed modules are downloaded as apk, they will need to be installed as such. Touch Setting button and go back Xposed Installer application.
Step 3: Now go to module and check Instagram Downloader. Now, you will need to restart your phone for the module to start working.
I know the module installation process is not the simplest but the feature this module enables is worth it.
Now that the phone has rebooted, open the Instagram app, select the photo/video you like and tap the three-dot menu. Now you will see a Download select.
What is the benefit of doing all this instead of just using the EasyDownloader app? First, you don’t need to activate Easy Downloader app every time you want to download a photo. Second, since this is an Xposed module, it doesn’t take up as much space or RAM as a real app running continuously in the background.
If you are rooted and have installed Xposed Framework, then this way is better.
Iphone
1. Instant Storage
The app is free but full of banners and full screen ads. Thanks to the way iOS 7 works, InstaSave can’t communicate directly with the Instagram app.
First you have to go to the Instagram app, select a photo and from the three-dot menu select Copy Share URL.
Now open the InstaSave app and tap Click to paste the URL button. Now the photo/video will be previewed. Touch Download to download.
2. The pound sign
I have previously written about Hashtack in detail. It’s an app that brings Facebook, Twitter and Instagram into a single feed. One of the best features about Hashtack is that it allows you to save any Instagram photo/video directly to your Camera Roll with the click of a button.
Of course, you’ll need to sign in with your Instagram credentials to use the app. When you see your Instagram feed, tap Instagram logo on any photo for a more detailed look.
Here you will discover a Rescue button. Tap it and the photo/video will immediately show up on your device. No app switching, no copying links, nothing.
