Follow these steps to add text to photos on your iPhone using the Photos app. For clarity, we have divided the steps into two parts.

Step 1: Launch the Apple Photos app on your iPhone.

Step 2: Open the image where you want to add text.

Step 3: Click Edit to open the edit screen.

Step 4: Click on the Marker (Pen) icon.

Step 5: Press the More icon (+) and select Text from the menu.

Step 6: The text box will show up on your photo. Double-click it to delete the existing sample text and replace it with your own.

Text customization

After adding text to a photo, follow these steps to edit the photo:

Step 1: Tap anywhere on the image.

Step 2: Then tap on the text you added to select it. Press and hold the text box and drag it to change its position on the image. Or, use the customizations at the bottom to format your text. You can change the color of the text by tapping on the available colors or the palette icon to choose a custom color.

Step 3: Similarly, tap the AA icon to change the font, size, and alignment of the text. Or, drag the text box inward or outward using either of the dots on it to resize or align it from landscape to portrait.

Step 4: Finally, tap Done, then Done to save the photo with text on it.

Pro tip: Tap the text and choose Duplicate from the menu to make a copy of the text.

It should be noted that the text will be added to the original image itself. A new copy of the image will not be created. In case you want to remove the text from the original photo, tap Edit, then Revert.
