With two different smartphones in your pocket (I own both Android and iPhone), you can’t help but compare the features between the two. There are some Android features that I miss on my iPhone, and some iOS features that I want on Android.

Thanks to Android’s open ecosystem, I’m able to use most of the iPhone’s features through the various apps available on the Play Store, such as the one with the swipe gestures we discussed recently. here, on my Android. And today we’re going to see how to get another cool iOS feature on Android: Customizable notifications on the lock screen.
Notify me!v2 for Android
Notify Me!v2 is an upgrade from the original version of Notify Me! with some feature improvements and bug fixes. The app is free to install from the Play Store and does not require any root access to work.
However, you will have to activate the app under Android Accessibility Settings so that it catches incoming notifications on the phone.
Now that you have the app activated, add an app that you want to show on the lock screen. Notify me!v2 only works for apps you choose, giving you more control over notifications and eliminating any possibility of spam.
After you touch Add app button, the app will list all the apps installed on your device. This will include system apps, and you’ll have to scroll through the alphabetical list to select one. One of the first apps that you might want to test should be WhatsApp or Messaging since you get notifications on them frequently.
After selecting an app, all other options will be available to access and you can choose the option for the notification that will appear on the lock screen. By default, all the apps configured in the app will show notifications on the lock screen and light up the screen. If you are carrying the device in your pocket, the screen will not light up but if you take the device out of your pocket within 10 seconds of the notification, the screen will turn on and you can see the notification directly.
There is a way you can use this app to get notifications for certain apps even if your screen is not locked, however, you need to be very sure as they will be shown under pop-up notification form even when you are working on other apps.
Hide specific notifications based on keywords
One good thing that I like about this app is that there is a way to hide keyword-based notifications.
For example, if you want to prevent a message from showing on the lock screen to be visible to a specific contact, just add his name to the blacklist keyword. You won’t see any pop-up messages from that particular contact.
After the notification pops up, you can unlock your phone to view it or choose to ignore it. You can add any number of apps to show notifications on the lock screen. However, if there are multiple notifications appearing at the same time, the newest one will hide the old one and that’s the only limitation I found in the app.
Conclusion
Definitely notify me! V2 is more polished and stable than the first version, but there is still room for improvement to make it more user-friendly. The options are quite confusing for the average end user. Additionally, a way to configure global settings across the application should be provided to override all individual configurations.
