All your new chats are set to disappear after the set time. In our case, we chose 24 hours to delete both parties’ conversation after 24 hours.

Enable disappearing messages for WhatsApp groups

You also have an option to enable disappearing messages in WhatsApp groups. When you create a new group from scratch, you’ll see an option to enable and use messaging time for groups. Here is how it works.

Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your phone.

Step 2: Tap the More menu at the top and select New Group.

Step 3: Select a team member from the following menu and continue.

Step 4: Give the group a name and you will see the Messages option disappear below.

Tap it and choose a message timer to automatically delete WhatsApp messages. You can choose 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days. We hope WhatsApp offers more time to choose from – such as 30 days, 45 days or 60 days.

Use Disappearing Messages for existing WhatsApp chats

When you enable disappearing messages from WhatsApp Settings, the feature will only apply to new chats. Your current chat thread remains unaffected. However, you can easily allow the message to disappear for any chat. This is the way.

Use Disappearing Messages for existing WhatsApp groups

Although WhatsApp has implemented the option to add a message timer while creating a group, you can add temporary messages to existing WhatsApp. Go through the steps below to make changes.

Step 1: Open a WhatsApp group.

Step 2: Tap the group name at the top.

Step 3: From the Disappearing Messages menu, select the group messaging timer.

In some cases, you may not have permission to change settings. Group admins or people authorized by the group admin can make changes.

Disable disappearing messages in WhatsApp

If you don’t want the message to disappear from all chats, you can always turn off this option in WhatsApp Settings.

The thing is, you might not want to enable message timer for all new WhatsApp chats. Some WhatsApp chats may be too important for you to keep messages longer. Turn off disappearing messages in WhatsApp using the steps below.
