Yes, like any other list, a Twitter list is also a group of Twitter users organized together. Grouping Twitter users into a list gives you a single window to see all their activities with the help of their latest tweets. Any of us can create and sort a list.
The best thing about creating a Twitter list (aside from its organizational benefits) is that you don’t need to follow other users on the list. You follow listed as a whole, not individual users on it. As a result, Twitter Lists help keep your main Twitter stream clutter-free. Think of a Twitter List as a group of tweet streams and you get the picture.
Create your first Twitter list
Creating a Twitter List is a simple one-click process. The screenshot below shows the location of the Twitter List just below the update status field.
Your first Twitter listing should have a name, description, and a Public-Private privacy option. Anyone can see the public list, and they can also follow it. Private listings are for creators only. Users included in the private list also cannot follow the list.
Your empty list now needs a few people to fill it out. You can do so in three ways:
- Search for username, last or first name, business or brand.
- Add users directly from their profile page.
- Add users from the ‘followers’ or ‘following’ page. You can branch into other people’s profiles and add people to your list by clicking the small drop-down menu next to the Follow or Follow button. You can include people in multiple lists.
Check out what’s on your list
Click the drop-down list next to Lists on your homepage. Clicking on Lists opens the page and you can edit or delete your list from here.
You can click through individual listings to catch the stream.
Follow other lists
Following the list is as simple as following any other Twitter user. Go to their profile and click the Lists tab when viewing their profile and choose which listing option you want to see. Click the follow button to follow one of their listings.
Many Twitter-based web apps list some of the popular ones that abound in the social sphere. The most famous is Listorius. Joining a few lists will show you the obvious advantages of Twitter Lists.
