How to View All Websites You Have Visited on Instagram

Link sharing on Instagram is different from other social media platforms. That’s because Instagram is primarily for sharing images, and over the years it has allowed link sharing to a certain extent. Users want to share links to their product, petition, cause and blog pages. While you can browse hundreds of such stores and websites on Instagram, it will be impossible to recall them if you have to recommend one store and website to a friend or colleague.

Luckily, Instagram has consciously included a way to rediscover these sites or links in your profile for future review. You can now see all the sites you’ve opened on Instagram in a single location. Let’s learn how to use the official Instagram app for Android and iOS. This will not work on the Instagram web app.

That’s not to say that the desktop or web app is completely redundant. You can still check direct messages or view Instagram stories. While all that said, putting links in comments or an Instagram post is still a pain. You will need at least 10,000 users to post links inside your Instagram stories. That aside, let’s see how to see all the links you’ve visited so far.

View and delete visited websites on Instagram Android

Step 1: Open the Instagram app and tap on your profile icon at the bottom right of the screen. Now, select the menu icon at the top right.

Step 2: Select your Activity from the sliding menu that opens from the right. You will find all the links and opened web pages in the Links tab.

The Time tab will tell you how much time you’ve spent on Instagram mindlessly scrolling through your feeds. Fair warning, it may come as a shock to some!

There is no search button here. You can scroll through the list and tap any URL to reopen the link. Links are sorted by date, starting with the most recent and opening in Instagram’s in-app browser with no way to open directly in your favorite browser.

Instead, the Hide History button will actually delete the links. You may find it misleading, but there is a reason behind this. Instagram means those links will be deleted for you but will be in their archives according to their Data Policy. You’ll get a warning from Facebook telling you that the information will still be used to ‘improve your experience’. Serve ads and relevant content.

To hide/remove individual links that you don’t need or want anyone else to see, long press on each link in question. You will see a pop-up window similar to the one above.

View and delete visited websites on Instagram iOS

There’s a slight difference between how things work on Instagram’s iOS app, but that’s only due to user interface elements and Apple’s design policies.

Step 1: Tap the profile icon in the bottom bar and select the menu icon at the top.

Step 2: This will bring up a popup from the bottom of the screen where you will tap on your Activity. You will find all visited links and open web pages in the Links tab.

All links will be sorted by date and time, starting with the link you last visited. There’s no way to search, and like Android, all links will open in Instagram’s in-app browser.

We have discussed how to hide the link unlike its name. It will delete the links on your side and there is no way to restore them. The links will be saved on the servers of Facebook (Instagram’s parent company) and will be used to serve better content and advertising.

Click the Hide links button to remove all links, but I don’t recommend doing that. You will lose all link history. Instead, swipe the link you want to delete from right to left to find the Hide button. Either way, you’ll be greeted with a pop-up explaining what happens when you hide the link(s) that link to the app’s Data Policy. Most users don’t read the Terms of Service and other similar agreements before using the app, but they should.

Insta’s Satisfaction

Now you know how to see all the websites you have visited on Instagram. And that’s one of the reasons why Instagram is so addictive. Instagram is still not very well suited for link sharing when compared to Facebook and Twitter likes. Mainly because Instagram still promotes short images and videos as a way to share content with others. That said, I’ve seen plenty of athletes, beauty experts, celebrities, and influencers post links to their merchandise for fans to Instagram profiles.

You don’t need to open the links in a separate app. Instagram will do it for you so you can come back and see them later.
