So, before diving into this topic, let me tell you a brief history of why it was important to me to transfer my photos to the camera roll on my iPhone.

My parents came to our place last weekend and the whole family was traveling for the weekend. As usual, we took a lot of photos on our DSLR. Now, after the holidays, I am faced with the simple task of transferring files to our family WhatsApp group so that each of us has photos directly on our mobile devices instead of downloading them. down from cloud storage or Facebook albums.

If it was Android, I would transfer the files to the SD card over the data cable and then transfer them using WhatsApp. But for the month I am using my iPhone and a simple task has become a struggle for me. Even iTunes photo sync won’t work, as WhatsApp or any other similar app just takes the Camera Roll as the photo source and adding any additional albums using iTunes won’t reflect.

Add photos to iOS Camera Roll

So I finally found a way that users can transfer photos directly from PC to Camera Roll and then share that photo using various social apps installed on iOS device. So check out some step-by-step instructions on how to easily transfer any photo directly to iOS Camera Roll from Windows.

Step 1: Download and install a free app called Drop2Roll from the App Store. The app is free but quite old and hasn’t been updated for a long time. However, I tested it on iOS 8.1.1 and it solved the problem in question.

Step 2: Connect the device and the computer you want to transfer files to the same Wi-Fi network. If you don’t have a local Wi-Fi hotspot, you can check out our guide on how to host a personal hotspot using a laptop.

Step 3: Once the computer and iPhone are connected to the same network, launch Drop2Roll on iPhone. The application will provide you with an FTP URL that you can access using your computer.

Step 4: Now open the Windows run box, enter the FTP address provided in the application and launch it. FTP will open in Windows Explorer.

Windows Run Command

Note: If the FTP folder is open in Internet Explorer, click See options and choose View in Explorer.

Step 5: Once the FTP folder opens in Windows Explorer, copy all the photos you want to transfer to the Camera Roll and you will be able to see them all updated on the iOS app in real time.

Step 6: Now all you need to do is tap Enter now on the app to import all the photos into the camera roll. Importing may take time depending on the number of photos, but once it’s done, the app will close automatically.

So that’s how you can transfer photos from any computer to iOS’s Camera Roll easily, without involving iTunes. You can then share these photos through various apps installed on your device. This process is wireless and can therefore be performed using any computer running on any platform. So give it a try and let me know how much time you saved.
