Samsung Notes is one of the best note taking apps on Galaxy devices. It is feature-rich and comes pre-installed on Samsung phones, tablets and laptops. However, you’re out of luck if you have a non-Samsung device. There is an average background, though. You can sync Samsung Notes with Microsoft OneNote and access your notes from your desktop and other Android phones.
Thanks to Samsung’s partnership with Microsoft, the company’s services like OneDrive, To-Do, and OneNote are tightly integrated into native One UI apps like Gallery, Reminders, and Notes. If you have a Samsung or S-Pen foldable phone, you cannot exit the default Notes app. One UI uses the Notes app by default to store quick notes and memos on your desktop. With OneNote integration, you can check all your handwritten notes and standard notes on desktops and other phones.
Enable OneNote Sync for Samsung Notes
When you sign in with your Samsung account on your Galaxy phone, One UI syncs your notes, contacts, messages, call history, reminders, and browsing history with Samsung Cloud. In addition to your Samsung account, you need to enable sync for OneNote from Settings. Here’s what you need to do.
Step 1: Open the Samsung Notes app on your phone.
Step 2: Tap the hamburger menu in the top left corner.
Step 3: Open Settings.
Step 4: Turn on the switch next to ‘Sync with Microsoft OneNote.’
Step 5: Follow the on-screen instructions and enter your Microsoft account details. Your Microsoft email address will appear in the same option.
Manually sync Samsung Notes with OneNote
If Samsung Notes hasn’t started syncing with OneNote, you can manually trigger the process.
Step 1: Open the Samsung Notes app, tap the hamburger menu in the upper right corner, and tap Settings.
Step 2: Select ‘Sync with Microsoft OneNote.’

By default, Samsung Notes only syncs with OneNote using Wi-Fi. You can tap Sync using and select Wi-Fi or mobile data. You can also sync while roaming.
Select Samsung Notes Folder to Sync with OneNote
Samsung Notes syncs all folders and notes with OneNote by default. If you don’t want to sync specific folders with Microsoft OneNote, exclude them from Settings.
Step 1: Open the Samsung Notes app, tap the hamburger menu in the upper right corner, and tap Settings.
Step 2: Select ‘Sync with Microsoft OneNote.’
Step 3: Click Folder to sync.
Step 4: Disable Folder toggle and enable the same for selected subfolders.
You can go back to the main menu and check the little OneNote icon next to the synced folders.

Limitations of integrating Samsung Notes with OneNote
Integrating Samsung Notes with OneNote has obvious limitations, which could be a deal breaker for some.
- Samsung Notes will not sync locked notes with Microsoft OneNote.
- You cannot edit synced Samsung notes from OneNote or Outlook. You can only view, copy, and share note content. There is no way to modify it.
- You can’t move Samsung notes to your existing OneNote notebook. Synced notes are only in the OneNote feed.
- OneNote for iPhone doesn’t show your synced Samsung notes.
