Following in the footsteps of Android, Apple announced the ‘Raise to Wake’ function in the iOS 10 update. It then introduced the Tap to Wake feature to turn on the screen with a single touch. On the Android side, manufacturers like Samsung and OnePlus are providing these functions with the support of Ambient Display. The real problem started when the Tap to Wake feature suddenly stopped working on iPhone and OnePlus devices.
The goal is to allow users to flip through the lock screen without touching the power button. The added convenience feels lucky that it works. But when it doesn’t, you can get confused. And that eventually leads to you stopping using touch to wake and raise to wake functions.
The problem is most common in iPhone and OnePlus devices. In this post, we will guide you step by step to solve the problem. Start.
Fix ‘Tap to Wake’ Issue on iPhone
1. On Tap to wake up
By default, iOS turns on tap to wake option. However, if you’ve disabled the feature by mistake, re-enable it from the Settings app.
Open the iPhone Settings app and navigate to Accessibility > Tap and enable the tap to wake option. Another useful addition is the ‘Advanced to Wake’ feature. It detects phone movements and lights up the screen. Go to Settings > Display and enable the raise to wake option.
2. Reset all settings
If you don’t want to go through countless menus in the Settings app then you can always use the ‘Reset all settings’ option to switch all settings to default settings.
Do not worry. It will not delete any apps or data on the device. This function will only delete saved Wi-Fi passwords. To use it, open Device Settings and navigate to General. Scroll down to the Reset option and select reset all settings from the following menu.
3. Restart iPhone
How can I forget this? Hard resetting your iPhone can resolve occasional glitches and unexpected software behavior from the device. You can press and hold the volume up and down buttons at the same time and hold the power button.
The Apple logo will show up and swipe right on it to reset the device. Alternatively, you can go to Settings > General > Shut Down and power off your iPhone. Hold the power button to turn it on. This process will bring back the tap-to-wake feature.
4. Update iPhone to Latest iOS Software
It’s been a year to forget for the iOS 13 update. Reviewers and users have criticized the company for delivering buggy iOS updates. Tap to wake may not work due to a recent software glitch on the part of the company.
The good news is that Apple is usually quick to roll out fixes. Update your iPhone to the latest version by going to Settings > General > Software. Download and install the latest iOS version for a smooth experience.
Fix Tap to Wake not working on OnePlus devices
1. Oxygen OS Update
On the Android side, it has been largely reported that the tap-to-wake feature is not working on the latest OnePlus devices, including the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro. The company’s website and online forums are filled with complaints from device users.
Thankfully, OnePlus acted quickly and rolled out the Oxygen OS 9.5.4 update (9.5.5 for EU users). The company claims to have fixed the issue with the aforementioned update. To download, open Device Settings and scroll down to System > Advanced. Tap on System update and install the latest patch on the device.
2. Enable Tap to wake from Settings
While checking out your shiny new OnePlus device, your friends may have disabled tap-to-wake from the settings.
To enable this feature, open the Settings app and go to Display > Ambient display. Enable tap screen option. This feature will not light up the screen with just one touch. It will wake up the device’s ambient display mode. You can glance at missed calls and notifications.
The ‘Raise to Wake’ action above is similar to the iPhone’s implementation and wakes the screen when you pick it up.
3. Turn off adaptive brightness
Inconsistent behavior of adaptive brightness can lead to unusual glitches in tap-to-wake functionality. Users can turn off the option from the Settings app. Open OnePlus Settings and navigate to display. Turn off Adaptive Brightness to see improvements.
Note: There is another way to fix the ‘Tap to Wake’ issue on OnePlus by recalibrating the phone’s proximity sensor from the device’s Factory Mode. But so far, the success rate is low, and that’s why we don’t cover it here.
Wake up phone with one touch
You can use the options above and fix the Tap to Wake feature not working on your iPhone and OnePlus devices. In my experience, the software update trick gets the job done. Which trick worked for you? Turn off the sound in the comments section below.
