In the Google ecosystem, the Play Store plays an integral part. Without the Play Store, there would be no easy way to access millions of apps. This means that Android as we know it will not exist. But for an app of such importance in our Android experience, we don’t know much about it.
Today, we’re going to explore some hidden and non-hidden settings related to Play Store apps and websites to make your Android life a little easier.
Install the Play Store app
1. Turn off Automatic Downloads
If you’re on a limited broadband plan and find your Android phone using bandwidth unnecessarily, there’s a way to turn off automatic updates over Wi-Fi. Go Setting -> Auto-update apps and choose Do not auto-update apps.
2. Parental Controls
To make sure your kids don’t discover adult content on the Play Store, visit Setting -> Allows apps to be rated for and choose low maturity.
3. Application bounce window
You’ll be happy to know that the Play Store has increased app return time from 15 minutes to 2 hours.
That means you now have 2 hours to claim a full refund in case something goes wrong with the app you purchased.
4. Disable keyboard shortcuts for all installed apps
Every time you install a new app, a shortcut will show up on your home screen. Annoying isn’t it?
From Settings, turn off Add icons to Home screen To get rid of them.
5. Password required for every purchase
The Play Store asks you to enter your password when you make your first purchase, but then won’t give you an error for the next 30 minutes.
For added security, visit Setting -> Password required to purchase and choose For all purchases.
If you don’t want to be eavesdropped every time, use Never select.
Play Store Website
1. Edit device details
Visit Play.google.com/settings for an overview of all the devices associated with your account.
While there’s no way to wipe devices directly, you can hide them from the settings menu and update them right here.
2. Track your order
To see an overview of all your past purchases, visit this URL. This page will make it easier to track purchases made with your account.
3. Track your device and wipe data with Android Device Manager
Hot Tip: As long as you have Android Device Manager installed on your phone, you can track its location from anywhere in the world.
The website can also be used to remotely wipe data once the device is online. In case of loss, you can ring from here or lock the device, displaying a personalized message on the screen encouraging the return of the device.
