How to Enable Video Streaming in uTorrent 3.0

Almost all of us use torrents to download movies, TV shows, and music videos. A lot of times, due to some careless users, we have downloaded fake or poor quality videos thus wasting both time and bandwidth. If you are also a victim of the above problem, uTorrent 3.0 can help you by allowing you to watch videos with continuous downloads.

So now you can preview your video files while they are being downloaded, and if anything goes wrong, you can cancel the download, thus saving your time and bandwidth, and of course the frustration of watching your favorite movie in webcam quality (obviously poor quality) video.

How to enable and use the feature

Step 1: Download and install uTorrent 3.0. The version has a lot of improvements and new features. One of the main features is music and video streaming.

If you are using an older version, you can download and install the latest version of uTorrent from the download link provided below, or simply update it via Help—>Check for Updates.

Step 2: When you are using µTorrent 3.0, go to Preferences and click Options.

Utorrent Option

Step 3: On the left pane you will see options like Cast Cap, Remote Control, DNA, Advanced etc. Select Stream option.

Step 4: After you select Stream in the left pane, in the right pane select the media player you want to use to preview the file, from the list of players installed on your system.

You can also choose your default media player by clicking “Use Default Player“. Personally I would recommend VLC player for streaming.

Step 5: If you are an advanced user, you can also configure the peer timeout, buffer size value. If you don’t know what they mean, leave it as is and finally click the ok button

Step 6: Next, when you try to download any video using µTorrent 3.0, you will see a Stream button next to the progress bar. Just click on it and wait for your video player to cache.

My judgment

I love this newly added µTorrent feature and from now on, I don’t rely on reviews like A08/V09 to tell me how good or bad the video quality is. Now I stream the video for preview while the video is being downloaded in the background. If I see any glitches in the video, I will cancel the torrent immediately.

So the next time you’re not sure if the video you’re about to download is good or bad, you’ll know what to do. Please note that caching will take time depending on your internet speed.
