How to Set Up Call Forwarding on Android and iOS

Sometimes you may want to forward calls to another phone or landline so as not to miss them. That way, you can attend to those calls when your phone’s battery is running low. Call forwarding automatically diverts incoming calls to a specific number.

Cellular service providers offer call forwarding, which you need to enable on your phone by dialing a carrier-specific code followed by a phone number. We’ll show you how to set up call forwarding on Android and iOS without entering any codes.

How to set up call forwarding on Android

Most Android phones allow you to configure call forwarding using the Default Phone app. However, actual options may vary depending on your phone’s model and Android version. Here’s how you can enable call forwarding on your Android phone:

Note: Some mobile operators may not offer call forwarding directly. You will need to contact them if you see the call forwarding option missing or grayed out on your phone.

Step 1: Open the app drawer to search and launch the Phone app on your Android phone. In our case, we are using the default Google Phone app.

A step-by-step guide that explains how you can set up call forwarding on your Android or iOS smartphone.

Step 2: In the Phone app, tap the three vertical three-dot menu, then Settings.

Step 3: In the Phone app Settings, tap the option that says Calling account. On some Android phones, the Call Accounts option may be in the Private calls menu.

Step 4: Tap the Call Forwarding option.

Step 5: You will need to select an appropriate call forwarding option by tapping on it. If you’re confused, keep reading as we explain all four options and their use cases.

  • Always forward: Selecting this option will forward all incoming calls to another number until you turn it off completely.
  • When busy: This option allows you to forward calls when you are busy talking to someone on your phone and want the incoming call to be handled by someone else.
  • When unanswered: This option only forwards calls when you cannot receive incoming calls and want them to be routed to another phone number.
  • When unreachable: This option only forwards incoming calls when your phone is in Airplane Mode, turned off, or has no cellular reception.

For this example, we chose to use the ‘Always Forward’ option. You can choose any other call forwarding options as per your requirement.

Step 6: Enter the number you want to forward the call to. You can also tap the contacts button next to the text field to select a saved phone number. Once that’s done, tap the Enable button.

You will then see a phone icon with an arrow in the status bar to indicate that call forwarding is enabled.

Furthermore, you can follow the same steps listed above and remove the number we entered in Step 6 to quickly turn off call forwarding on your Android phone. You may want to check out our guide to technical troubleshooting when receiving incoming calls on Android.

Step 3: Turn on the Call Forwarding switch.

Step 4: Next, tap on the Forward To option.
