How to Remove Extensions, Change Extension Settings in Chrome

For the beginners among you, we have covered the basics of browser extensions and how to install them. Extensions spice up your browser. They help you do things that would otherwise require unnecessary software, thus filling up your system.

Chrome has a great web store and thousands of cool extensions to choose from. Most of the extensions we use on Google Chrome are plug and play. Just install them and forget about the rest. However, sometimes you may feel like changing the settings or uninstalling the extension completely.

So today we are going to outline some details on how to remove and change extension settings in Google Chrome. To do so, we first need to open the Google Chrome Extensions page.

Here are the steps.

Click Settings in the upper right corner, click Tools then click Extensions

Another way is to write chrome://extensions/ in the address bar and then press the enter button.

An expanded window will look something like this.

Expansion page

This page depends on the extensions you have installed. Now let’s see what we can do with the extension.

Extension Options

Disable the extension

Clicking on the disable option below the extension will disable its functions at the time of browsing. It’s like having an employee in your company but not assigning any work to him.

You can easily re-enable the extension if you want to work with it again.

Configure the extension

Now every extension can be configured manually, and so the specific extensions you can configure come with an Options button. To configure the extension’s internal settings, click the option manually and do the necessary things.

Uninstall extension

Uninstalling means removing the extension from your browser completely. On clicking Uninstall, an alert box will display asking for confirmation for that particular extension.

Uninstall

Once you’ve uninstalled an extension, the only way to get it back is the Chrome Web Store.

Allow anonymity

Clicking Allow in Incognito will also allow the extension to be available in Google Chrome’s incognito mode. You should always enable security extensions in incognito mode because, after all, they’re all about that.

Developer mode

If you want to force update your Extension, click Developer Mode and select Update Extension Now. Forget the other two options, they are purely for extension developers.
