How to Hide Files in Invisible Hard Disk Partition Using Secret Disk

If your family members or office colleagues are in the habit of looking through your files and folders whenever they use your computer, then you should consider hiding the files just for your eyes.

Previously, we wrote about a method of hiding files in clear images (also a tool that does that) and of course using Folder options in Windows to hide files. Today we are going to talk about a method that is easier to implement than hiding files in images and provides better protection than using Windows folder options, to be honest, nowadays everyone knows and can easily uncheck that option to see hidden files.

We will be using a free, Windows-only tool called Secret Disk that will create a hidden partition, or should I say “Invisible” where you can put all your secret files and folders. It’s easy to implement and use.

Let’s see how to use this tool.

Use secret disk to hide files

Step 1. Go to Secret Disk page, download and install the software.

Step 2. Type secret disk in the Start search bar and open the program.

Step 3. It will ask you to choose a password for the hidden partition. Enter the password and click Set Password.

Step 4. It will ask if you want to unlock the disk. You can click Yes if you want to see the hidden drive.

Step 5. You will need to re-enter your password. You can also choose the letter you want to assign to the virtual drive.

As you can see above, it is not a separate partition with its own space. Instead, it’s just a hidden location in your C: drive that stores your private data.

Next time you access Secret Disk from the Start search bar, you will see a panel where you can unlock the drive and also access Secret Disk settings.

It provides several settings that dictate how it should work. There is an option to lock Secret Disk by pressing F8, which is nice because you can use it to lock it instantly whenever needed and lock it when the screensaver is launched. This ensures that whenever you are away from your PC for long periods of time, it is automatically protected and hidden.

Overall, Secret Disk is a quick and easy solution to hide files. However, keep in mind that it does not encrypt files. If you are looking for a more secure solution then you can consider creating a hidden TrueCrypt volume which, although not easy to create and operate, certainly offers better protection.
