Design Award-winning SoundCloud’s new iPhone app Everything from conversion to one-handed use is well thought out. And it looks gorgeous. But the new app has no offline support. You can’t download songs (even songs that are allowed to be downloaded by artists) to listen to later. It’s streaming or nothing.
Thankfully, there are some alternatives when it comes to downloading and playing songs from SoundCloud. The options are listed below.
Third-party apps: Party residence
Third-party SoundCloud apps for iOS seem to be in vogue. I’ve found 2-3 apps that look exactly the same and work the same way, and they’re all made by different developers. Here are some of them:
- Free Music Download – Mp3 Downloader for SoundCloud®
- Free Music Download and Play – MP3 Audio File Manager and Downloader
- Free Music Downloader – Mp3 Download and Streaming for SoundCloud® (Note the subtle difference in the App’s name, almost impossible for the average user to identify)

Download music (Free
In Free Music Downloads, songs are broken down by genre and you’ll see a Top 100 iTunes section to the top for easy access to the most popular songs. Tapping on a song starts playback immediately in the app’s music player.
When you search for a song, you will see a Downloadable part. Exploit Download button immediately starts the download. There is also a way to download a song as it is being played. Touch Share button and press Download.
To turn this app into a music player that you can actually use, there is also a playlist feature. You can add a song to a playlist using Share button.
go Files to view your downloaded songs. The playlists section can be used to sort and access playlists.
Also. Much. Advertisement. Every free SoundCloud download app I’ve tried is full of ads. So much so that it becomes frustrating – and when an app offered to turn off ads in exchange for a “favorable” App Store review, I almost agreed. Here’s the problem, if you plan to use these apps often, it would be better if you upgrade to the pro version (usually $1.99).
Professional music downloader
Music Downloader Pro is an alternative to the previously listed apps. It is also full of ads but the user interface is a bit cleaner and easier to understand.
An alternative to SoundCloud Downloader
What if you want to download a free legal song that isn’t on SoundCloud? You can’t rely on Safari or Chrome, they don’t let you download any kind of media, they just let you stream them.
An alternative to SoundCloud downloader is a real downloader/browser. The problem is that you won’t be able to create playlists or play song after song, but you will be able to download any song from the internet.
For this you can try the two options listed below.
A. Mercury Browser
Mercury is a capable browser with a built-in download manager. It allows multiple downloads, pause/resume and has a built-in media player.
Once downloaded, just long press on the downloadable link, tap Download link and you’re done.
Downloader for iOS
Downloader for iOS is built with the sole purpose of downloading content from the internet. It works similar to Mercury, only it has more ads.
