You can install Titanium Backup just like any other app from the Play Store. When you run the app for the first time, you’ll be prompted to grant superapp access. After you grant access, it will launch and read your system settings.

Some features on the main page will be highlighted in red (not available) and these will stay that way as long as you’re using the free copy. If you’re having trouble with any of the no-donation features, tap problem button at the bottom to update Supersuer and Busy Box for your device.

Unlike any other Play Store app, where I’ve always insisted on discovering apps myself, I wouldn’t recommend it for Titanium Backup. Titanium Backup is a very powerful system tool with great capabilities and great power comes with great responsibility, so one must be very sure of what he is doing.

So now let’s take a look at one of the basic features of the app: backup and restore.

App Backup

First backup

On the main screen of the app, click the check button in the top right corner to open the Bulk Backup/Restore section. Here you will see a lot of options for bulk backup and restore with one run button right next to them. To create your first backup, navigate to the Backups section. Click the Run button next to it Back up all user apps to start. If you also want to back up system data, tap the corresponding button.

Select all the apps you want to back up and tap the green check button in the top right corner of the screen. The app will initiate the backup process and will save all the files to your SD card in its own Titanium Backup Folder in an archive format. The application will display the process on the notification drawer and will notify you once the backup is finished.

Next backup

Later, when you want to update the last backup after installing some new apps on your device or updating some data on some apps, you can modify the existing backup . In the Backup section, run a batch process to redo old backups to overwrite old backups.

Restore apps

Before you begin the recovery process, you’ll have to allow installation of apps from third-party sources on your Android from your device’s security settings. Once that’s done, you can simply tap on any recovery scenario you want and start the recovery process.

Titanium Backup will restore individual apps along with their data to your device. On the free version of the app, you’ll have to manually restore the app one by one. Just make sure you don’t tap the open app button after restoring any apps.

If you buy pro version from market all apps will be silently restored to your phone and if you have a lot of apps on your device it’s worth the purchase.

Delete backup

If you want to remove an app’s backup from your SD card after you’ve uninstalled it from your device, you can do so from the Remove Backups section. Run batch for Delete backups for installed apps.

Conclusion

So it’s all about backing up and restoring apps with Titanium Backup, but that’s just the beginning. Stay tuned for more posts in the series where we show you all the cool things you can do with this app.
