If you’ve updated Windows 8 to 8.1, you probably know how nightmares can be if you have the Windows 8 Pro edition exclusive CD Key. Although I somehow managed to install the Windows 8.1 update, after restarting my PC I found the Windows 8 tiles on my desktop were missing. Run System File Checker
Right click on the Windows menu in the lower left corner and click Command Prompt (Admin). Now type sfc /scannow and run System File Checker utility. The system scan may take some time and it is best to close all running programs while they are on. After the scan is finished, it will automatically detect and repair corrupted Windows 8 files, and a simple restart after the troubleshooting process.
The trick worked for me perfectly and now I can run Windows Modern PC installations without any errors. However, if you still can’t get a working PC setup, try creating a new administrator account and see if you can access it.
