Where is slow motion mode?
Swipe up in the camera interface to access Slow Motion mode. Touch it, and you’re good to go.
As we mentioned before, there are two modes:
- 1080p @ 240 fps
- 720p @ 480 fps
The second option is about eight times slower, but you get a great slow motion shot.
How to detect slow motion videos?
The gallery app on OxygenOS represents slow-motion videos by a small play symbol surrounded by dotted lines, as shown in the screenshot below.
1. Time, composition and steady hand
The key to a great slow motion video is timing and composition. A video clip at the wrong time has almost no video at all. The same is true for framing and composition. A video with a great foreground but a poor background rarely appears.
So the next time you’re going to shoot a video in slow motion, plan it so that all three elements fit. Also, if you’re a hand shaker, you should invest in a quality tripod (like the Joby GripTight Stand). That will make your phone more stable because even the slightest shake looks like a big jolt.

2. Shoot in natural light
Next, shoot in a well-lit and well-lit area. You may notice a certain banding or flicker in the camera, especially when shooting indoors. It happened because the indoor fluorescent lights flickered and the camera caught it by accident.
Another point to note is that even without flicker, indoor slow motion videos tend to be darker, not to mention grainy, thus stealing the magic of the video.
3. Crop for sharp short videos
No one wants to sit through long and boring videos. The key to sharp, short videos is to trim them so your audience can get to the real content super fast. Not only does it make it super fun to watch, but it also makes it easy to share.
To trim a video, open it in the Gallery and tap the Play button. Select Cut and drag the Start and End sliders, and then tap Save. There you have a short and simple video in seconds.
5. Add the right track
Music is an important part of any video. The best part of the built-in editor is its music collection. Although it is a bit limited, you can choose from fun tunes to slow tracks. In short, there are many tracks for different moods. For example, if you have filmed your dog trying to catch its tail, you can add an Epic clip to make it look funny.
Tracks are available in Music. Just tap one to select and you can also adjust the music to some extent. Once you’ve selected a track, tap it again to bring up the EQ settings. Tweak it to your liking and hit Save.
6. Add music from your collection
The built-in music library is limited to a few tracks. So if you’re someone like me who shoots slow motion videos quickly, chances are you’ve overused some of these tracks.
One of the best places to find audio tracks is on third-party video editing apps like Inshot Editor. It has a lot of sound tracks for different moods and settings. In addition, the application is quite easy to use.
All you have to do is open the track and tap Music > Featured, select a track and save the video. To add music from your own collection, tap My Collection and choose one.

7. Reverse for more laughter
Imagine your little one jumping up to catch a flying saucer. Now, imagine it in reverse. Looks interesting, doesn’t it? Yes, reversing slow motion videos is fun.
Unlike the Galaxy S9+, the OnePlus6/6T does not include Loop or Reverse features. Therefore, we have to resort to the help of third-party applications. Reverse Movie FX and ReverX are some of the best apps to develop on the occasion.
Reverse Movie FX has an outdated interface and takes some time to create a reverse clip. The good news is that the results are perfect.
To use this application, select the video clip and press the Start button. The app will give you the option to choose a resolution. Once the clip has been processed, you can save it.
In contrast to it, ReverX has a slightly modern look, a better user interface, and also allows you to add music from your own collection.
8. Add a filter for the right effect
The built-in editor of the OnePlus 6/6T has another useful feature – Filters. Similar to photo filters, you can use them to improve the overall look over and over again.
Simply choose one and hit save.
Last but not least, you can convert slow motion videos into GIFs. Despite the noticeable drop in quality (worse with indoor videos), GIFs are easy to share.
Giphy is one of the best apps for creating GIFs. It’s simple and easy to understand. Just upload a video by tapping the Plus button. Trim it if it’s too long a video and save it to your phone’s gallery.
