How to Automate CCleaner Clean Up Of Your Windows PC

Previously, we discussed how you can use Windows’ two built-in tools simultaneously, Task Scheduler and Disk Cleaner to automatically clean up your system over time. While the default disk cleaner did the job, I personally prefer CCleaner because it has more features and works better. The default drive cleaner looks silly when compared to CCleaner.

Today we will see how you can create the same automatic drive cleaning task using CCleaner.

If you haven’t installed or tried CCleaner on your Windows PC yet, you must do it now. This app made our list of the top 10 must-install freeware on a new computer.

Create automatic CCleaner cleaning tasks

Step 1: Run CCleaner and configure the type of cleaning you require when the scheduler automatically runs the program for you. When you’re done, click the . icon Options—>Advanced and check option Save all settings to an INI . file. Doing so will ensure that CCleaner always retains your settings.

Install cleaner

Step 2: Now, run the Default Task Scheduler for Windows. I always prefer to hit the Start orb and search for the scheduler and let it come to me rather than looking for it in some system folder.

Step 3: I’m feeling a bit lazy today, how about you, check out our previous post, which shows how to use Windows Scheduler. Steps one through six are exactly the same. I’ll take it from Step 7 here.

Step 4: After the scheduler asks you to enter the program or script you want to run, simply browse for the CCleaner executable and let the scheduler record its address. If you installed the default, you will find the program at C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner.exe. Don’t forget to add /AUTO to the Add Arguments field. It’s the key component to task automation.

Step 5: Review all settings and create tasks. If you want to run the program with administrative rights, you can do that by changing the properties of the task. Right click on the task you created and click Property. In the properties window you can change settings like running the program in administrator mode, controlling actions, changing trigger details, etc.

That’s all, windows will run scheduled task at specific time. You probably won’t even notice it. Just make sure your computer is turned on at that particular time.

My judgment

I’m sure most of you have been using CCleaner for a long time and I’m sure most of you don’t use it on a schedule and only have to use it when your computer starts to become sluggish. Automating this task will lead to better productivity. It will be like a maid cleaning your house on schedule. The best part: she won’t ask for a salary either! ????
