Hide Photos or Status Updates in Facebook From Certain People

What do you do when you don’t want your ex-girlfriend (whom you friended on Facebook) to see the pictures of the new girl you just posted? How do you hide the weekend drinking moments you’ve had with your friends, from your conservative relatives (and parents)?

In both situations mentioned above, not having such people as friends on Facebook is always an option. But that may not be the most convenient one. Luckily, there’s a way to hide your Facebook photos, videos, and status updates from people who shouldn’t see them.

Hide Facebook status updates from certain people

Let’s see how we can hide status messages or photos/videos we upload using the status tab from certain people.

Step 1. On the Facebook status tab on your homepage, you will find a small security lock icon next to the share button. Click it.

Step 2. You will find several options in the drop-down menu that appears. You may find that you have the option to show your status to Everyone, Friends of Friends, and Friends Only. Default is Friends Only. There is a Customize option below that. Click it.

Step 3. Clicking on the customize option will bring up the Custom Privacy box. As shown in the screenshot below, you can use the available options to show the status update to specific people as well as hide it from certain people.

When you start typing the names of the Facebook friends you want to hide, it will auto-populate the names making it easy to select them.

Similarly, you can hide photos, videos or anything you post from the status bar. You just need to make sure you use custom privacy settings, save them and then share the status.

Hide Facebook Photo Albums from certain people

Now let’s see how we can hide an entire Facebook photo album from certain people.

Step 1. Go to the sidebar on your Facebook homepage and click Photos -> My Uploads to access your album.

Step 4. This step is the same as Step 3 in the process of hiding Facebook status. You can show the album to certain people or enter the names of the people you want to hide the album from.
