If you’re a teen or a member of a WhatsApp group with your old friends, you know the type of content being pushed isn’t something you want others to see. It’s not something you want your boss to skim through when you show him pictures of your baby.
So what do you do? Delete them? That’s one way. But what if you could take the cake and eat it? Let’s talk about an app that allows you to safely hide photos from the dreaded WhatsApp Media folder.
How to hide photos from WhatsApp
We will be using an app called Hush Gallery to hide photos. The app lets you hide photos for free, but if you want to hide videos you need an in-app purchase. First, go to the app, click on Exhibition room, and set a password.
Now, go to WhatsApp and open the chat with the photo. Touch and hold the photo to select. Now tap Share button and select Silent.
You will get a pop-up asking if you really want to hide this photo. Say yes.
Now, when you go back to your friends list and go back to the chat, you’ll see that the picture you just sent Hush is still there, it’s just greyed out (and not even that much).
But you will find that touching the image gets you nowhere. It says that the file you want to access does not exist. Task completed.
But now that you know the images are safely saved in the app, you can delete the images from WhatsApp. This way the images won’t show up in WhatsApp or the Gallery app.
How is this better than moving pictures to another folder?
You must know that all the media you receive in WhatsApp is stored in a folder in your internal storage. Anyone can access this folder. Sure, one way to hide photos from WhatsApp is to move the photos and videos to another folder, but that doesn’t solve the problem. While this will remove the media from WhatsApp conversations, it’s still accessible from the Gallery: the first place snooping friends visit when they pick up your phone.
When you are using Hush, it moves the file to another location. But this one is safe. Can only be opened with the passcode you set.
Hide photos from Gallery: Hiding other photos from your Gallery can also be done in a similar way. Open the app, touch and hold to select the photo you want to hide, then press the . button Share button and select Silent.
How to unhide photos
Since the photos have been moved from their original location, they will not be restored to the WhatsApp Media folder. Instead, they will move to a new folder named Hush Photo Gallery.
To unhide a photo, go to the app, tap Exhibition room and select the image. You will see a eye icon in the bottom row. Click on it and select unhide.
