Change Windows 8 Store Region to Access Unavailable Apps

Windows 8 Store

Almost all app stores have some

country limited app

only available to users when they browse from a specific country, usually the US and

Windows Store

is no different. There are currently a lot of apps in the Windows Store that are only available to US users. Today we will see how we can view and install such apps on our Windows 8 devices by visiting the US version of the store.

Normally we would use a VPN service to change the computer’s IP address to the US but that doesn’t work with the Windows 8 Store. Instead, we will be changing the default (geo) location of Windows 8 and disabling location detection service in both modern and traditional settings. Normally, this location is set when the user installs Windows 8. However, as we will see, there is a way to change that location even after Windows is installed.

Change location details Windows 8

Step 1: First of all, we need to disable location access of Windows Modern apps. To do that, open the Windows 8 Start Screen and search for Location below Setting navigation. Click on the result Allow apps to use my location and toggle it from on to off.

Step 2: Once done with that, open Dashboard From the computer. If you are viewing the Dashboard below catalog view then change it to Icon view.

Step 3: Click Location settings and disable the Windows location platform along with GPS service. This will ensure that no apps will use your device’s GPS (while working on a tablet) for location awareness.

Step 4: After completely disabling Windows location services, navigate to Control Panel again and click Land setting.

Step 5: In Area settings Navigate to location tab and change Home Location to USA. Windows won’t do any checks before changing the location, and once it’s done, you’ll be presented with some additional stuff across various apps.

When I change my location to USA, all the app search results in the Windows 8 Store return about 600 additional apps that have never appeared before when browsing the app store as Indian users. You can also use your credit or debit card to purchase some country-restricted paid apps. Once you have purchased the app, it will be available

Hopefully the above workaround will help you access many other useful Windows 8 apps.
