Apple refreshed the iPhone’s lock screen with the iOS 16 update. You can change the font style and color, add widgets, and set multiple lock screens. Apple has also integrated lock screen wallpapers to check live weather, favorite memories, and even the solar system with a simple glance. Here are the best tips to customize your iPhone lock screen like a pro.
Customizing the lock screen is part of the iOS 16 update. If you’re running an old build of iOS, you won’t find any tricks on your phone. You must update your iPhone from the General menu in the Settings app.
1. Change the font and color of the clock
Changing the color of the watch and even the font should be Apple’s last-ditch effort to let users choose whatever they find convenient. You can change the time font, color and style. This is the way.
Step 1: Press the power button to check the lock screen. Authenticate yourself (don’t go to the home screen, though).
Step 2: Long press on the lock screen. Select ‘Custom’ at the bottom.
Step 3: Tap the clock.
Step 4: There are eight font styles to choose from. You can tap on the earth icon in the top left corner and choose either Arabic Indic or Devanagari font type.
Step 5: You can scroll through the different color options horizontally and check the live preview at the top.
Step 7: You can scroll right and choose a specific shade from the color wheel. iOS will apply color effects to the clock and lock screen widgets (more on that later).
2. Add lock screen widget
You no longer need to rely on the Today View menu to check app widgets from the lock screen. With iOS 16, you have more dedicated widgets to use on the lock screen. Follow the steps below to add a lock screen widget.
Step 1: Open the lock screen customization menu on iPhone (refer to the steps above).
Step 2: Tap the widget below the clock.
Step 3: iOS will open the lock screen widget menu at the bottom.
Step 4: You can place three widgets simultaneously (two in small size and one in medium size). Scroll and check the app widgets.
Step 5: You can tap a widget or drag and drop it to place it below the clock on the lock screen.
Currently, only Apple’s default apps support lock screen widgets. The company provides the necessary APIs for developers to create dedicated lock screen widgets. We hope to see more developers update their apps with new lock screen widgets.

3. Create a New Lock Screen on iPhone
You can now create multiple lock screens on your iPhone.
Step 1: Long press on the lock screen and select the + icon in the bottom right corner.
Step 2: Add a new wallpaper from the following menu. Here are your wallpaper options.
Photos: Add photos from your iPhone’s photo library on the lock screen.
Everyone: Add your family members and loved ones
Emojis: Customize the wallpaper with up to six emojis.
Weather: This is one of our favorites. You can set the weather wallpaper that changes according to the atmosphere. For instance, you will see a cool rain wallpaper when it’s pouring rain outside.
Astronomy: You have five wallpapers to choose from. You can set Earth, Moon and Solar System location as background on lock screen.
Color: Set a solid color or gradient pattern on the lock screen. You have dozens of color combinations to play with here. After setting the color wallpaper, you can cycle through different styles like Deep, Steam, Solid, Tone, Vibrant and Bright.
You can create multiple lock screens with different backgrounds on your iPhone.
4. Check out Apple Collection Wallpaper
In addition to the above wallpapers, you can refer to a new collection of images from Apple to implement on the lock screen.
Step 1: Open the wallpaper menu for the new lock screen (refer to the steps above).
Step 2: Scroll to Collections.
You can add Pride, Unity and even original Clownfish wallpapers on your lock screen.
