I’m not a linguist or etymologist but in today’s generation of SMS who cares about correct spelling and grammar! Of course, spell checkers are basically necessary when one is doing serious writing, but they certainly aren’t that important when updating status on Facebook or Twitter. Also, sometimes the spell check becomes annoying because it doesn’t keep up to date with the latest terms as well as colloquial words that a person uses in everyday conversations.
The same goes for browser history that continuously records every step you take on the internet. Spell check and history are really helpful for a lot of people, but if you ask me, I’d be better off with it. I disabled spellchecking and history on my Firefox, and if any of you want to do the same thing, here’s how.
Disable Firefox’s spell check
Click the Firefox button and open the browser settings by clicking the Options button.
In the Preferences window, navigate to overview settings below High level tab and remove check against option Check my spelling as I type. That’s it, as soon as you save the settings, you will no longer be warned about spelling mistakes on any text field in Firefox.
If you want to enable this feature anytime in the future, just re-enable the setting. That’s how we can disable the inbuilt spell check. Now let’s see how we can disable browser history for privacy.
Disable Firefox History
You also need to open Firefox Preferences to disable history. Open the Privacy tab in the Preferences window and select Never Remember History from the drop-down menu below the history section to disable the history feature entirely.
If you use the custom settings from the menu, you will have the option to record a history for a specific session, which is automatically deleted as soon as you close Firefox. You’re better off using custom settings and keeping the option to clear history when Firefox closes.
Conclusion
If you’re a Chrome user, we’ll soon show you how to turn off the inbuilt spell checker in one of our quick tips. Disabling all history together is not an option in Chrome and using incognito mode is the only way if one wants to keep his browser private.
