When you use your computer regularly, a lot of unnecessary things start to accumulate in the hard drive. These include temporary files, system files, and files in the recycle bin that you no longer need. You can delete these and other junk files easily using Disk Cleanup.
Disk cleanup is a manual process. You must open the drive cleanup wizard to use it. However, there is a better way to accomplish this task. You can actually schedule disk cleanup to run automatically at your preferred time when you’re likely away from your PC.
This article tells you how you can schedule using Windows Task Scheduler. These steps apply to both Windows Vista and Windows 7.
1. Click the “Start” button. Type “Task Scheduler” in the search box. Click the result.
2. On the Task Scheduler window, click “Actions”, now click “Create Basic Task” from the drop-down menu.
3. On the basic task creation window, enter the name of the task and its description. Once completed, click on the “Next” button.
4. Select the task schedule. You can choose Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Once or any other option based on your priority. When you’re done, click Next.
5. Now specify the schedule and click “Next”.
6. Select “Start Program” and click “Next”.
7. Click the “Browse” button.
8. In the File name area, type cleanmgr.exe and then click Open.
