How to Fix Stray Crashing on PC

Are you having trouble starting a Stray game on PC or Steam?

Stray may crash immediately or seconds after you launch.

The game can also crash when you are playing halfway.

Either way, you need basic troubleshooting to avoid problems.

To fix it, you can try verifying the integrity of the game files for Stray, download and extract the dxvk file, or update your graphics card.

Method 1: Verify game files for Stray

1. Turn on steam.
2. Go to your library.
3. Right click on the game Stray.
4. Click “Properties”.
5. Select “Local files”.
6. Click “Verify Game File Integrity…”.

Once you’ve clicked “Verify integrity of game files…“, wait for the verification to complete—it may take a few minutes.

Finally, try restarting the Stray game and see if it stops crashing.

Method 2: Download and extract dxvk (Windows 7) only

1. Go to https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases.
2. Download “dxvk-1.10.2.tar.gz”.
3. Unzip the file you just downloaded.
4. Open the extracted folder.
5. Open the folder “x64”.
6. Copy all the extension files in the folder.
7. Open Steam and go to your library.
8. Right click on the Stray game and click “Properties”.
9. Click “Local File” > “Browse”.
10. Open “Hk_project” > “Binaries” > “Win64”.
11. Paste all the extension files you copied from step 6.

After you have pasted all the expansion files, try to launch the Stray game.

This time, the game should be able to start without problems.

Please note that this only works for Windows 7 operating systems.

If you are using a newer version of Windows, you cannot use this method.

You can try method 1 or 3 instead.

Method 3: Update your graphics card

1. Install the GeForce experience app: https://www.nvidia.com/en-sg/geforce/geforce-experience/download/ (if you are using an Nvidia graphics card).
2. Sign in or create a new Nvidia account (you can also use Facebook).
3. Click “Drivers”, then “Check for Updates”.
4. Click “Download” to update your graphics card.

After downloading the update, try to launch the game Stray.

This time, Stray won’t crash and you’ll be able to play the game because your graphics card is up to date.
