If you have two or more PCs at home, you can easily create a HomeGroup in Windows 7 and share files and media between them using networking. You can share images, videos and other documents very easily using this feature.
To use this feature, you must create a homegroup on one computer and join it from the other computers. Once the process is complete, you can start sharing files and folders between those computers.
How to create a Homegroup in Windows 7
Click the “Start” button and type home group in the search box. Press the Enter key.
On the HomeGroup window, click the “create a homegroup” button.
A password will appear on your screen. This password is needed at the time you are connecting another computer to your HomeGroup. Write down the password or print it out. Click “Finish”.
Now select the files you want to share. You can share library files and attached printers. Plus, you can stream photos, music, and videos to all the devices on your home network. After choosing your choice, click the “save changes” button.
How to join Homegroup
Let’s say you have two computers in your house. On the first computer, you created a homegroup. You can now join that homegroup on your second PC.
In the second computer, click the Start button and type home group in the search box. Press Enter key. The Homegroup screen will appear as shown in the screenshot below. Click the “Join Now” button.
Now select the library folder you want to share. Here I am sharing my music folder.
It will ask you to enter a password. Enter the password generated during Homegroup creation in the first step and click the “Next” button.
After you have successfully joined the group, click “Finish”.
Now go to the system explorer and click on “Homegroup” on the left. The PC connected to the Homegroup appears on the right. Click on it to access shared files.
In the screenshot below, the music folder is shared. I click on it to access all of that PC’s music files.
These are music files. Now I can play any music files contained in the folder just like I play files on my computer.
