How to Use Animated Reactions in Zoom on Desktop and Mobile

Zoom makes it easy to connect with your personal and professional contacts via video calls. To make things interesting, you can use Captions in your Zoom call to improve your presentation. To encourage and share participants’ feelings, Zoom now allows them to use React to express their views and thoughts.

Of course, that requires you to update the Zoom app on your device. We’ll show you how to use Animated React in the Zoom desktop and mobile app.

Update Zoom app

It is important to check that you are using the latest version of Zoom (at least v5.13 or later) on desktop and mobile devices. Here’s how to check and update Zoom on your Windows or Mac.

How to enable animated response when zooming on desktop

To start using Dynamic React in Zoom calls, you need to enable it in the Zoom app on your computer. Here’s how to do it on your Mac and Windows PC.

Step 1: Open Zoom on your Mac or Windows PC.

Step 2: Click the Settings icon in the upper right corner.

Step 3: Select General from the menu on the left.

Step 4: Scroll to the bottom and find React.

Step 5: In the React section, click the checkbox next to ‘Animate these emojis’ to enable React with effects.

As of writing, Zoom enabled Animated Reactions for six emojis. You can’t add multiple emojis to use as Dynamic Reactions. Also, you can’t change an emoji’s skin tone to use it as an Animated React.

How to use animated reactions in Zoom on desktop

Now that it’s enabled, here’s how you can use Animated React in your Zoom calls on your Mac and Windows PC. Again, the steps to use this feature are the same for both Mac and Windows users.

Step 1: Open Zoom on your Mac or Windows PC.

Step 2: Start a Zoom meeting.

Step 3: Click React in the bottom Menu Bar.

Step 4: Click on the three dots on the right.

Step 5: Select an Animated Response of your choice.

Animated Reaction will appear in the top left corner. You can follow the same steps to use more Animated Reactions in your Zoom calls.

How to enable dynamic response when zooming on mobile devices

If you prefer to use Zoom mainly on your Mobile, you can use Animated React in your meetings. But before that, you need to check if this feature is enabled or not. The test steps are the same for both Android and iPhone.

Step 1: Open Zoom on your iPhone or Android.

Step 2: Tap the three dots in the bottom right corner.

Step 3: Tap on Meeting from the list of options.

Step 4: Scroll to the bottom and click the switch next to Animated Reactions to enable this feature.

Please note that you cannot change the Skin Tone of an emoji and use it as an Dynamic Reaction.

How to use animated reactions in Zoom on mobile

Now that you’ve enabled the feature, here’s how to use Animated React in Zoom on your Android and iPhone. The steps to use this feature are the same for both Android and iPhone users.

Step 1: Open the Zoom app on your Android or iPhone.

Step 2: Start a new meeting.

Step 3: Click the React icon on the Menu Bar below.

Step 4: Tap the three dots next to the emoji on the right.

Step 5: Tap on any emoji to use as Animated Reaction.

The selected animated reaction will show up at the bottom of your screen.

As of writing, there are only six emojis available to use as Animated Reactions in the Zoom app for Android and iPhone. You can’t add multiple emojis to use as Dynamic Reactions.
