Your Android phone may have a great processor, but chances are it doesn’t have enough memory for all your music. Therefore, you may want to stream music from your always-on computer when you are not at home. Audiogalaxy is a great tool that can help you do exactly that. It’s a combination of web apps, system tools, and mobile apps to make sure your music is always within reach, wherever you are.
This guide will show you how you can use Audiogalaxy to transfer music from your computer to your Android smartphone easily.
Here are the steps:
Go to Audiogalaxy.com and sign up for a new account. You can also log in with your Facebook account – Audiogalaxy promises that they won’t notify your friends about your musical activities without your permission.
After you register and import Audiogalaxy, the Audiogalaxy Helper app will download itself to your computer. If you’re using Google Chrome, click Save to save the file.
Meanwhile, the Audiogalaxy website will notify you that it is waiting for the help application to be installed.
When the download is complete, your browser will display a security warning asking if you really want to run the .exe file. Click Run.
The Audiogalaxy Helper app will install itself, and on first run it will automatically start cataloging the usual music folders in your Documents folder. Right click on the system tray icon and select Your Music Folder to select additional folders that can contain your songs and click OK.
Within a few minutes you will find that the Audiogalaxy website contains your music files and you can actually play those files from the website as long as the Helper app is running. This will be quite useful, especially when you are at the office and want to stream some music from your home computer.
To stream music to your Android phone, you need the Audiogalaxy Android app. Just click on the Droid icon at the bottom left and scan the QR code with the barcode scanner. Or use this Appbrain link. Install apps from Android Market.
Launch the app and now log in with the ID you created on the Audiogalaxy website.
All your music will be available instantly. Tap a song to play it.
You can tap the Search tab to search for songs. Audiogalaxy was very quick to find songs during testing.
The Player tab shows the music currently playing and gives you music controls. You can press the Menu button on your phone and go to Settings.
In the Settings screen, you can easily turn off headset controls and automatically lock the screen during music playback. The latter means more battery consumption since your screen won’t turn off. You can also opt for High Quality Audio playback, which means you need a really good internet connection.
