To send data from one computer to another, you need a wire to connect them, or you need to buy a router to be able to transfer data wirelessly.
However, if your laptop or desktop computer has a wireless network card, it can be connected to another PC in your home, as long as the other PC is also capable of wireless. And you don’t need a router to establish this connection. This is called ad-hoc networking.
Here are the steps to set up a special wireless home network in Windows Vista.
1. Go to Control Panel and click on the Network and Sharing Center icon.
2. On the left side under Tasks, click “Set up a connection or network” select.
3. Now click on “Set up a hoc wireless network (computer to computer)“.
4. Click the Next button.
5. Now give your network a name. The default security type should be WPA2-Personal. Let it be because WPA2 is much better than WEP when it comes to wireless network security. Select a security passphrase, click save network if you plan to use this network again and press next.
Your network will be built successfully. You can now connect any Wi-Fi enabled device to your computer. If you search for available wireless networks, you will find a newly built network (“My Network” in this case) on your device.
This way, you can access and transfer data between your phone, printer, laptop, and wi-fi enabled computer. A simple and easy method for setting up an ad-hoc network.
