How to Set Up and Use Hide My Email on iCloud+

With iOS 15, Apple renamed its iCloud plans to iCloud+. iCloud+ provides additional security features like Hide My Email to users. The Hide My Email feature allows users to hide their email when dealing with service providers that require such. This comes in handy when the service provider shares your email address with other third parties.

Also, using the Hide My Email feature keeps your inbox clutter-free as you can delete the address. Here’s how to set up Hide My Email on your Apple device.

Set Up Hide My Email

To set up Hide My Email on your device, you have to make sure you have three things: iOS 15 installed on your iPhone, signed in with your Apple ID, and an iCloud email. Here’s how to set up Hide My Email.

Step 1: Tap the Settings app on your iPhone.

Step 2: At the top of the Settings menu, you’ll see your Apple ID and tap it. If you don’t see your Apple ID, you’re not signed in. Hurry up and move on.

Step 3: Tap on iCloud.

Step 4: Tap ‘Hide my email’.

Step 5: Click on ‘Create New Address’ to launch the pop-up.

Step 6: On the pop-up window, you will see an explanation of Hide My Email and suggested email addresses. Tap Continue if you’re fine with the email address. Otherwise, click ‘Use another address’ to create another one.

Step 7: Provide an identification label for your address to make sure you remember what it was for. You can also ‘note’ the address description (this is optional).

Step 8: Tap Next.

Step 9: Click Done to complete the process.

After performing these steps, you can send emails from the Mail app on your device using the newly created email address. It will also work when you need to provide your email address on any website through Safari browser.

Send a message using Hide my email

You can use Hide my email on your Mac, iPhone, or iPad. However, you must have iCloud email to make sure this feature can work. Here are the steps to follow when you need to send an email using the newly created email address.

Step 1: On the browser, log in to iCloud.com.

Note: If you’re using an iPhone or iPad, simply tap the default Mail app instead of going to iCloud.com

Step 2: Tap Mail.

Step 3: Select the New Message icon at the top right of the window to launch a new blank message window.

Step 4: In the To field, include the mail recipient’s address.

Note: When you use ‘Hide my email’, messages can only be sent to one recipient.

Step 5: In the From field, select ‘Hide My Email’ from the pop-up menu.

Step 6: Provide an email subject and enter your message, then tap Send.

After sending an email, the address that the recipient sees is the newly created Hide My Email address. However, you will receive all responses to your iCloud email address.

Step 4: Tap ‘Hide my email’.

Step 5: Click on the email address to delete.

Step 6: Click Deactivate email address.

Using iCloud Private Relay

That’s how to set up and use hide my email on iCloud+. This feature is important because it protects your original email address from spam. It also ensures that you sign up for the service and don’t reveal your real email address to third parties. Another new iCloud+ feature you should consider is Private Relay, which hides your IP address.
