Since its release last December in India, YU’s Yureka has made waves throughout the budget phone segment. With specs comparable to those offered on high-end phones (I’m looking at you as the HTC Desire 820), the Yureka sold out in seconds at each flash sale. One of the highlights of Yureka is that rooting and unlocking of the covered bootloader is unprecedented outside the realm of Nexus phones. With this known peace of mind, I will show you how to root Yureka on CM-12.
I will be using a Tool called “All in One” created by gohel.vishal, at XDA. This tool can unlock bootloader, install recovery and root device. You don’t need to write any long and annoying adb commands.
1. What you need to know before you start
WARNING: This guide is only for Yureka running CM-12. You cannot use this tool on Yureka running Kitkat, otherwise it will be hard bricked.
You will understand the rooting process using this simple infographic.
Unlocking the Bootloader will erase all your user data, so back up everything on your phone before you begin. Also, make sure your phone is charged at least 50%.
Before we continue, we need to activate Developer Options And after that Android debugging. Go Settings > About phonescroll down and tap build number 7 times to activate Developer Options.
Go Settings > Developer Optionsscroll down and off Cyanogen Recovery Update and activate Android debugging.
Last thing – this tool only works on Windows.
2. Install the driver
Step 1: Download the All-In-One Tool. Extract the tool from the zip file to the Desktop. Launch the tool, read the warning carefully and press any key to continue. Type 6 and press Enter.
Step 2: Follow the PDA-Net setup to install the driver. inside Phone selection select window Others.
Make sure you choose USB mode at the end of the installation process.
you can get a Enable debug mode window if you don’t do it sooner. Follow 1 more time to enable it.
3. Unlock Bootloader
We will start by unlocking the Bootloader. This will remove the protection layer from the internal memory. Without removing this restriction, we cannot install a custom recovery or gain root access.
Step 1: Connect the phone to the PC (do not turn it off). It is better to connect it directly instead of a hub. Restart the tool, type firstand press Enter.
Step 2: Your phone will enter Quick start automatic mode. Let the tool do its job. ONE complete message indicating that the process is complete. After the process is finished, if your phone is still in good condition Quick start modes and tools are showing waiting for devicedisconnect the cable and it will reboot.
4. Install CWM or TWRP Recovery
Step 1: In the tool, type 4 or 5based on your choice and press Enter.
Step 2: This will start the recovery installation and your phone will be back in state Quick start method. The following image shows the completed operation.
To check if the recovery is installed successfully, turn off your phone and turn it ON by pressing both buttons volume button And Power button simultaneously.
5. Finally rooting Yureka
Before you do this, make sure the restore is correctly installed in the previous step.
Step 1: In the tool, type 3 and press Enter. It will ask you to confirm recovery and driver, type 0 proceed with. Connect the phone and the tool will start working. If after connecting your phone, the tool shows waiting for device, the driver is not installed correctly. Repeat step #2 to install the driver.
Step 2: Go into recovery mode by holding both volume button + Power button. To restore CWM, select install from SD card and let TWRP choose Setting.
Scroll down to select Root.zip files from files. When the process is finished, reboot the device. That’s it, your Yureka is now rooted. To confirm, just find the installed SuperSU app. If you can’t find it, this means root failed, so repeat step 5.
Conclusion
Now that your Yureka is rooted, you can experiment with custom ROMs, block annoying ads, etc. You can also try out Xposed and try out some awesome mods. If you have any doubts, feel free to share them in the comments section. You can also check out the official toolchain at xda-developers.
