How to Create a Restricted List on Facebook

Your Facebook profile is probably one of your oldest social media profiles. You still have to receive a lot of birthday messages on your Facebook profile. Many users prefer to keep their Facebook profiles just to share specific personal and career updates.

But there may be some updates that you don’t want to share with specific friends on Facebook. And unfriending them may not be an option for some updates. So you can create a Facebook Restricted List for such friends. Here’s how to create a Facebook Restricted List on desktop and mobile.

What is Facebook’s restricted list?

As mentioned above, the Restricted List on Facebook allows you to add specific friends with whom you do not want to share any new updates. After you add friends to your Restricted List, they will remain your friends on Facebook. But they can’t see your latest posts and updates. Please note that it is different from blocking someone on Facebook. After you restrict someone, that person can still be contacted via Facebook Messenger. Privacy settings are baked into the platform so you don’t burn the bridges between your contacts.

Create a Facebook restricted list on desktop

Now that you know what it does and what your restricted friends will see on Facebook, here are the steps to add people in your friends list to your Facebook Restricted List when using a Mac or Windows.

It may happen that Facebook restricts your account and you cannot perform certain actions using your profile. If you are facing this, you can refer to my article on how to unblock your Facebook profile.

Add restriction to Facebook profile

You can add your friends to your Facebook Restricted List without removing them completely from your profile. Facebook is a social media platform. And it can consume a lot of your time for sure. If you feel that the platform is getting too much of your attention, you can enable Silent Mode on Facebook to limit your usage. You can use this feature on your iPhone or Android and control how much time you spend on the platform.
