How to Remove DRM from AA and AAX Audiobooks
The program we will be highlighting today that is used to perform DRM removal is TunesKit Audiobook Converter. It is compatible with both Windows and Mac. You should also note that the method outlined below (due to the nature of the software) will be essentially the same on both operating systems. It can be used in conjunction with iTunes to free up DRM Audible audiobooks by converting them to the popular MP3 format.
Your first step is to download the files you want to convert from Audible to your computer. Go to your library on Audible and hit the download button next to the files you want.
You will then be directed to a page asking how you would like the book to be played back.
In this case, I selected Windows and from there was able to download Audible Manager. This shouldn’t change significantly for Mac.
After installing and opening Audible Manager (AM), select My online libraryand click Download next to your audio to save the audiobook file locally to prepare for the next step.
You will then need to import the files you want to remove the DRM into iTunes. To do this, in iTunes select File >> Library >> Import Playlist and select the desired AA/AAX file.
Note: By default, the version of Tuneskit downloaded from their website is a trial version. You will need to purchase the full version
Next, you’ll need to open Tuneskit and select the audiobook you want to convert. Tuneskit automatically scans your iTunes library for AA/AAX files that you’ve added to your iTunes library. Fight Add files, make your selection and then press convert.
Once done, you can open the output folder directly from Tuneskit and from there transfer your audiobooks to any device you want. You will also be able to play them back with software that was previously not possible due to the lack of support for AA and AAX file formats.
