We all want our real and online lives to be easy. While Google Assistant is excellent at doing that, its creator, i.e. Google, seems to have other thoughts. That’s because when all the other apps set their settings in a comfortably accessible way, finding Google Assistant settings is like an assignment on a reality TV show.
I may have exaggerated that, but the settings are buried. And if like many other users, you also don’t know how to launch Google Assistant settings, then you have come to the right place.
In this post, we will tell you how to enable Google Assistant settings on Android phones, iPhones and Google Home. Read to the end, you will also find some additional tips.
Let’s jump in.
View Settings on Android
There are three ways to launch Google Assistant settings on Android phones and tablets.
1. Use the Google Assistant
Step 1: Launch Google Assistant on your phone by saying ‘Ok Google’ (if enabled) or pressing and holding the home button.
Step 2: When the Google Assistant pops up, tap the compass icon at the bottom.
Step 3: You will be taken to the Explore screen. Tap the profile picture icon at the top. From the menu, select Settings.
Step 4: Click the Assistant tab. Congratulations! You have reached your destination.
2. Use the Google app
Step 1: Launch the Google app on your phone and tap the More tab at the bottom.
Step 2: Tap Settings, then Google Assistant.
Step 3: Tap the Assistant tab to change the settings.
3. Using Command
You can even ask the Assistant itself to open the settings for you. First, launch the Google Assistant and say or type the command ‘Install Google Assistant’. The Google Assistant will ask you to tap the Settings option below. Click it to see the settings.
Assistant settings on Google Home
While Assistant settings can be accessed using the methods above for Google Home and Home Mini, you can also use the Google Home app. For that, follow these steps:
Step 1: Launch the Google Home app on your Android phone or iPhone.
Step 2: Click on the user icon at the bottom.
Step 3: On your Android phone, tap Settings found in General. On iPhone, tap More settings available under the Google Assistant label.
Step 4: In both cases, you will be taken to Google Settings. Tap the Assistant tab and change the required settings for Home and Mini.
Launch Settings Assistant on iPhone
While Google Assistant comes pre-installed on most Android phones, it’s only accessible on iPhones by downloading the Assistant app.
To access its settings, follow these steps:
Step 1: Launch the Google Assistant app.
Step 2: In the Assistant, tap the profile picture icon present in the upper right corner.
Step 3: On the next screen, tap the Assistant tab. Enjoy the Assistant settings here.
Change Google Settings Ok
To change the ‘Ok Google’ or ‘Ok Google’ setting, first launch the Assistant settings on your phone as shown above. Then, in the Assistant tab, scroll down and tap Phone.
Here you can turn off Google Assistant accessibility by speaking the commands above. If Google doesn’t recognize your voice, you can retrain or remove it by going to the Voice samples option. And if the problem persists, try these fixes.
Extra Tip 1: Set Input Mode as Default Input Method for Google Assistant
In case you don’t like interacting with the Voice Assistant, you can enter commands by typing commands. To do that, launch Google Assistant. It will start listening for your command indicated by four wobbling dots. Tap the dots and tap the keyboard icon.
Also, wait for 3-5 seconds for the dangling dots to stop. Then the keyboard icon will automatically show in the bottom bar. Click on it to activate the keyboard. Now type the query and press enter key on your keyboard.
To set input mode as your preferred input mode, go to Assistant settings as shown above. Scroll down and tap Phone. Then tap Preferred Input and select Keyboard. To switch back, repeat the steps and select Voice.
Extra Tip 2: Change Google Assistant’s voice to Male
Most virtual assistants including Google Assistant use female voices for psychological reasons. However, if you wish, you can have a male voice or a different version of a female voice for the Assistant.
Instead of giving you options like voice 1, voice 2, or male 1, female 1, etc., Google uses colors to distinguish voices. Google randomly assigns colors to the voice, and you need to choose a color to change the voice.
To do so, go to Google Assistant Settings. Then tap the Assistant voice present in the Assistant tab. Tap the color to preview and choose a voice.
Edit settings
So that’s how to change Google Assistant settings. Sometimes, after working with its settings, the Google Assistant may not be able to read the answers. In case that happens, read our guide to fixing that problem and ask the Google Assistant to respond.
In addition, Google Assistant recently upgraded the note and list feature. Both features are now part of Assistant. Try it once.
