If you are an Instagram Story enthusiast, you must have used Instagram Stickers at least once. Instagram has a good collection of stickers that include likes like Hashtags, Mentions, Polls etc. While some of these are static, others are clickable and interactive.
However, sometimes we want to add our own personalized stickers to our Stories. Unfortunately, Instagram doesn’t provide a direct way to do it. But there are workarounds to achieve it.
Here I will tell you two methods to do it. While one method requires a third-party application, the other requires the help of two websites. Before you get confused, let’s move on to the steps.
Method 1: With the app
Step 1: Download AnySticker app on your device.
Step 2: Once installed, open AnySticker app. Then click the Create Sticker button. You can also choose from Recommended Stickers.
Step 3: On the next screen, enter the sticker text.
To change the text theme, tap the colors below the sticker text.
Step 4: While you cannot change the font of the sticker, tap the icon before the sticker text to change its symbol. Alternatively, you can tap the three-dot icon to see a list of available icons. Then select the required icon from the available options.
This app provides possibly related icons like music, battery, travel and food, except for a few. You can use these icons to create cool stickers. For example, when you share a piece of music on your Instagram Story or a song is playing, you can use a custom sticker for the clip as shown in the screenshot below. All you need to do is select the musical note icon from the list of icons in the app.
Step 5: Once you are satisfied with your sticker, tap the Create Sticker button.
Step 6: Now, you need to select the image from your phone’s photo gallery where you want to add the sticker. To do so, tap Choose Image in the AnySticker app. You will be asked to grant storage permission. Grant permission to proceed. Select an image from your device.

Step 7: If you’ve selected the right image, tap Add to Instagram Story. Alternatively, if you want to change the image, tap Switch Image and select a new image.
Step 8: You will be taken to the Instagram Story screen with the newly created sticker on the image you selected in the step above. Here, hold and move the sticker to change its position. To resize, use pinch and zoom gestures.
You can add other Story elements such as text, doodles, etc. to your image in this step. Unfortunately, this method does not allow you to add multiple stickers.
Method 2: No app
If you want to add more icons than the ones provided in the app, you can do that too. This method does not involve any application but is a bit tedious. However, it has many advantages over the previous method. For instance, you can add many custom stickers and change the font of the stickers.
Here’s what you need to do.
Step 1: Since you need to create a text sticker with an icon before it, you need an icon or icon first. To do that, visit any website with ASCII symbols. This is the one I use. You can also try this one. Open the website and copy the icon you like.
Step 2: Open the Instagram app and create a new story by tapping the Stories icon. Now, take a new photo or upload an old one from your photo library.
Step 3: Tap the Text icon in the story and paste the icon you copied in the first step. If you want to use the default Instagram font, enter the text, choose a font style, and go to step 5.
Step 4: However, if you want to change the font style, you need to visit your preferred font creation website. Here are some of the good ones.
In the font generator website, enter the sticker text and copy the font style you like. Then go to Instagram Stories and paste it after the icon.
Step 5: Now that you have both the text and the icon, you need to make it look like a sticker. Instagram stickers usually have a white background with colors in a rainbow style.
For a white background look, choose the Classic Instagram font style. Then tap the A icon to get a white background.
Step 6: To get rainbow-style text, you choose letters and symbols. You will get color options at the bottom. The next part is a bit tricky, so be careful.
Hold the rightmost color to get the palette. Now, without leaving your finger and with the text selected, use one hand to drag the palette selection from right to left and at the same time drag the text selection from right to left.
It seems a bit difficult at first. However, it is very easy once you do it a few times.
In case you don’t like the above step, you can try this trick. Deselect each text character and change the font color for each character.
Finally, change the position and size of the sticker as usual.

While both methods are alternatives to creating custom text stickers for Instagram, neither method allows you to add the right image as a sticker. I really hope that this feature will be available on Instagram, similar to WhatsApp where you can create custom stickers for the recently introduced Stickers feature.
