Yesterday we discussed how you can operate and manage Yahoo/Hotmail or any mail account from your Gmail account without letting anyone know. Today we come to the next post in this series where we talk about fully switching from Yahoo/Hotmail to Gmail without losing older emails and contacts.
Migrating email accounts is not an easy decision. Your old email account has lots of important emails and contacts that you don’t want to lose. Luckily, Gmail offers an easy way to import all your old emails and contacts from other email clients like Yahoo and Hotmail.
Additionally, Gmail will also continue to import new messages from your old mail account for the next 30 days. This is the timeframe provided to you that you can use to notify your contacts that you have moved to a new email address.
Here are the steps to create a new Gmail account and import your old one.
1. Go to Gmail and create a new email account.
2. Click Setting button is present at the top right of your Gmail. Below Accounts and Imports click tab Import mail and contacts button.
3. A new window will pop up. Enter your Yahoo or Hotmail address (or any other email address) in the box provided. Click Continue button.
4. Enter the correct email account password that you entered in the previous step.
5. Check all options. You can add labels to your imported emails. I gave a label “hot mail” so that I can easily identify the message I entered.
6. A window will appear stating “It can take several hours (sometimes up to 2 days) before you start seeing imported messagesSo be patient.
6. You can check your import status at any time by going to Settings -> Accounts and Imports. The screenshot below shows the import done.
So this way, you can switch to a brand new Gmail account and import all your previous emails and contacts.
