Although most of us have smartphones, many people think that the best platform for reading is an e-reader or tablet. However, not everyone has. But if you happen to have a PS Vita (which we’ve covered in some very cool articles, like this one and this one), then you can use its amazing display more than just to play. games but also to (yes, you guessed it) read books and other materials using a very cheap comic book reader app.
Interesting? Then read along to learn how to do this.
Ready for your PS Vita
Step 1: First, on your Vita, go to the PlayStation Mobile section of the PSN store and search for comic inner part application. There you will find ComicStation App ($1.99) that you must purchase to read your book.
Step 2: Now, open ComicStation on your PS Vita and select From Dropbox select.
The app will then direct you to the browser for you to log into your Dropbox account and allow it to be linked to ComicStation. This is a one-time procedure, so there is no need to worry about it in the future.
Once you link your Dropbox account to ComicStation, return to the app and leave your PS Vita aside. Now it’s time to prepare your book(s).
Prepare your book
Whether you have a PDF book or you have it in another format, you will have to convert it to a format that ComicStation can understand.
In this example, we will work with a PDF book.
Note: I’m using a Mac for this example, but all the tools (or their equivalents) are also widely available online for Windows PCs.
Step 3: Your goal here is to convert every page of the book into a JPEG file. For this example, I’ll use the free PDF Toolkit app.
To do so, simply open your PDF book in the app, click Text / Image tab, choose format (make sure you choose JPG) and resolution and click Converted into!.
The result will be a series of .jpg files, each representing a page in your book.
Important Note: Be sure to rename each JPG page in your book with the corresponding number as shown in the screenshot above.
Step 4: Once done, you put all the image files into a folder and then compress into a folder .rar document. Once you do, change the file extension from .rar ARRIVE .cbr. This is a comic book format, which is a readable ComicStation format.
Cool Tip: You can also compress your images into one .zip document. But if you make sure to change your book extension Are not ARRIVE .cbrbut to .cbz
Step 5: With your newly created comic file, open your Dropbox and find the ComicStation folder (must be in the ComicStation folder). Applications folder). Then open it, put your .cbr file in it and wait for it to sync.
We’re done here. Now it’s time to go back to your PS Vita to read your book.
Read your book
Step 6: On ComicStation on your PS Vita, select From Dropbox. There you will find the book(s) you uploaded. Choose the one you want to read and download it to your PS Vita.
When you do, you’ll be able to open your book right from there, or you’ll be able to find it in List of comics section in the main menu.
Important Note: If you want to clear the books, cache images, or even view them in safe mode (useful for larger files), just touch and hold the book and you will see options there.
And there you go. If you have a PS Vita and want to read a lot or want to have all the game guides in your handheld, then try this. It works great and is a great (and inexpensive) option for carrying your important books and documents on the go.
