In general, a mobile phone is a device with which you can make or receive calls and text messages. Smartphones, on the other hand, are whatever you want them to be. With the advent of high-resolution cameras and unlimited memory, you can capture and save anything on your phone that you want but the question is do you want it?
The problem with saving photos and videos on your phone is that the gallery is easily accessible to the prying eyes of friends and family, who have both asked you to play with your phone and test its features. And often, your phone is the one most likely to contain your craziest photos that are clicked without a second thought when you’re in a completely different state of mind (you get the picture, right?)
By default, I want my Android to have two galleries, one public and one password protected. Well, like Steve used to say – there’s an app for that!
KeepSafe is an extremely useful app for Android that hides your private photos and videos from the default gallery and locks them behind a password protected gallery.
Step 1: Download and install KeepSafe on your Android smartphone. The app is free to use and works on all Android versions.
Step 2: The first time you run the app, it will ask you to enter the pin you want to use to lock your photos and videos. If you are connected to the internet, you can enter your default email address to recover your pin if you forget it.
Step 3: Once you’re in, it’s time to add some photos and videos. There are two ways you can add photos to the vault. You can select and add photos using the KeepSafe app by clicking Menu—>Add Photo Button or you can add photos from your default photo library. Just open the photo and share with KeepSafe to lock the photo.
Step 4: Once you’re done, all your locked photos will be hidden from the default gallery and if you want to see them you’ll have to do that via the pin the app gives you to unlock.
To unhide any photo, press the Unhide button at the bottom of the screen, select and confirm the photos you want to unhide.
Note: The displayed images may not appear in the gallery at the same time. You may need to restart your phone for the media scanner to re-index them.
My judgment
I’ve been using KeepSafe for quite some time and so far I’ve never had a problem with it. I believe it’s a must have app for your android. Do you use any similar apps to hide your photos and videos? If you do, I’d love to know.
