The Screen Recording feature on your iPhone or iPad can be useful in a number of ways. Chances are a person will be sharing a complex set of instructions with someone who is not a techie at all. Or maybe you want to capture your amazing gaming skills in action. And either way, the Screen Recording button is just a few swipes and taps.
While this is a pretty useful feature, it may not appeal to everyone. For example, you may rarely use this feature, and Screen Recording just wastes screen space on your Control Center. Not only that, it can also pose privacy and security issues. Especially if you’ve shared your iPhone and iPad with others or in a test environment. And then there’s the whole problem with kids—do you want them to have access to such a feature?
Below, we will discuss several methods to remove Screen Recording from Control Center. Alternatively, you can restrict it from running altogether. If you’re a parent, you might also find helpful tips on how to manage this feature remotely.
Remove screen recordings from Control Center
The Screen Recording control when not in use only uses space on the Control Center. If it gets in the way of you trying to select or interact with another item (which is certainly not fun), you can prevent the item from showing up there.
Step 1: Open the Settings app.
Step 2: Tap Control Center, and then tap Customize Controls.
Step 3: In the INCLUDES section, tap the red icon before Screen Recording.
Step 4: Tap Delete to confirm your action.
That’s it. The Screen Recording control button will no longer be visible in Control Center. To turn it back on later, return to the Customize Control Center screen, then tap the green plus icon in front of the Screen Recording shown under MORE CONTROLS.

Limit screen recording
When you have to share your device, Screen Recording can also be annoying. If you don’t like other users suffocating your Gallery with random screen recordings, then you can disable the feature entirely. Unfortunately, it’s easy to undo that, and you can’t prevent anyone from re-enabling it on the Control Center. Thankfully, that’s where iOS’ built-in Screen Time function helps you impose restrictions on the feature.
Note:
Step 1: Open the Settings app, then tap Screen Time. On the Screen Time panel, tap Content & Privacy Settings.

Step 2: Tap Restrict content. If you don’t see this option, turn on the lock next to Restrict Content and Privacy to unhide.
Step 3: In GAME CENTER, tap Screen Recording.
Step 4: Tap Don’t Allow, then exit the Settings app. The Screen Recording control will no longer work, even if it is enabled in Control Center.
Annoying users aside, another reason you might want to restrict Screen Recording is privacy and security concerns. For example, if you download and test a variety of apps, or if you participate in Apple’s TestFlight program, you need to consider the potential effects of that.
One possible experimental feature could spoof sensitive information by recording your screen without your explicit permission. While the chances of this happening are in fact very small, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
Remote management
Screen recording opens up a whole other side of issues with parental controls. Can you trust your child’s judgment to decide what to record and share with others? If in doubt, it is up to you to decide whether the person should use the feature or not.
For starters, you can simply restrict Screen Recording over Screen Time by interacting directly with your child’s iPhone or iPad and securing it with a passcode (as discussed above). You can also do it remotely as long as your child’s device is linked to your iOS device via iCloud Family Sharing.
To do that, tap your profile in the Settings app, then tap Family Sharing. During this process, you need to set up a Screen Time passcode for each family member you add, which you then have to use whenever you manage those devices remotely.
After adding your child’s account, tap your child’s name from under FAMILY in the Screen Time panel and you’ll be able to access a set of dedicated restrictions that may apply on the device of your child. The options are the same as on your iPhone or iPad, so you won’t have any problems figuring things out.

The native screen recorder in iOS negates the need to install any ad-supported third-party screen recording apps on your iPhone or iPad. Also, it is a much better alternative than screenshots. But as you have seen above, there are many cases where it is best to limit this feature.
Thanks to Apple for providing an easy way to disable screen recording. You’ll then have a spot to add something else on the Control Center, and no more accidentally recording screen videos in your Photos library.
