A few days ago, my brother-in-law called me to ask for help with IT. He needs a software with which he can record computer screen along with sound on Windows for free. This tool is really promising, so let me show you how you can use it to create screen recording videos on your Windows PC.
Record Screencast with Open Broadcaster
To get started, download and install Open Broadcaster on your computer and launch it. The interface is a bit too simple and that’s why it can even look a bit confusing. The Scene section is the main scene you are recording and you will have to add the recording source to it in the Sources section.
Right-click the sources, and then select Screen capture as a source. If you are using dual monitors, you will be asked to select the monitor you want to use as the recording source.
Furthermore, if you want to capture a specific window, you need to select the option and then select the program from the drop-down list.
Once you’ve selected the source, it’s time to configure the audio source. For screen-recorded videos, if you need to use audio from the speakers, turn off the microphone’s volume bar. Finally, when everything is ready, click Start recording and then continue with your work.
The tool will start recording in the background and to stop it you will have to click the same button again. You can click Document and choose Open recording folder to view recordings. Don’t forget to save your settings so you don’t have to configure the source every time you launch the app for recording.
All settings of the software such as encryption, save folders and even re-encryption quality can be configured from the settings menu.

So let’s say you have an external video device attached to your computer and you need to record footage from screencast and external video sources respectively. Using Open Broadcaster, you can create more than one scene and then simply click on the scene while recording to record it.
